My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our first step is an application. If you are interested in any of our rescue dogs, go to our website at pueblocolliesheltie.org and THOROUGHLY read the Adoption Info section. If we sound like the right group for you, we invite you to submit an application after completing that section. We do not give our information about our dogs without an application. ‘Princessa’ and ‘Sunni' were bred to be “rare, smooth-coated shelties.” Although I was born at night, it was not last night and therefore…what we have here are two sheltie mixes. The girls are a little over a year old, spayed, have a little obedience training and are housebroken as well as crate trained. Although they arrived together, they will not be placed together because the girls have very different personalities and will each be suited to a different kind of family. Princessa is the little tri-colored female that looks like a sheltie that might have been bred with a Jack Russell Terrier. Two such smart breeds have produced a bright and energetic 20# dog that is very responsive to voice commands and has a fun side that loves toys. She hoards toys and bones and ropes and wants to hold them all in her mouth at the same time. She could be encouraged to chase a ball or fly to catch a Frisbee. She is neat and clean and is not interested in being an alpha. She will take good direction from another dog, either male or female. A level one obedience class is always a good starting point for a human and a dog to learn about communication. And Princessa would shine in a class like that. Sunni, the sable and white pooch, is a much more dominant dog. She is strong-willed and learns quickly but would prefer that it be her idea to do a task. We could easily see her as an only dog, backpacking with her person, taking the lead for a moment but checking back with her human to make sure everything is okay. She could carry her own dogfood in a doggie pack made for just that purpose. Although she has been in her foster home for only three days, she bonds quickly and has managed to endear herself to all the members of the family. She enjoys going for walks and is taking to the leash well. Once again, an introductory training class would solidify the bond between Sunni and her primary human. And this is one smart cookie. As with all of our dogs for adoption, a completed application is the first step toward us knowing the basics of who you are and why you think you have the perfect home. Although you will see the dog’s photos and bios posted elsewhere, you will need to come back to our website for the adoption information section and the online application. We will look forward to hearing from you and hope to help you make a fabulous lifetime commitment to a furry friend.
