My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

To look at this darling little face, you would not know how deeply 'Mitchell' has been wounded by someone. Not the traditional abuse of harsh voices and raised hands, but some more emotional abuse that has eroded his confidence and made him fearful down to the bone. Because of this, Mitchell needs unconditional love and consistent behavior techniques to become a happy little dog. He is a very smart 20# neutered male, black and white silky-furred dog. He could well be a sheltie/papillon mix as we were told. He is housebroken, has some obedience training and is completely vaccinated, micro-chipped and healthy. Mitchell is amazing on a leash and the key to his happiness could be wrapped up in long walks and fabulous one-on-one bonding with a woman who would become his 'everything.' He is a real speed demon in a fenced back yard and has good energy and a sense of fun. Because of Mitchell's unhappy past, he can exhibit some bizarre behavior at times. He selects one primary person (an adult female) to love, cherish and protect. Other people may be a threat to him or his chosen person and therefore are to be driven away by ferocious barking. Although three successive foster families have tried to make him feel secure enough to trust all the members of the family, we have not been successful thus far. Different experts have put him on anti-depressants (not effective), melatonin (slightly effective) and tried various behavior modification techniques but we have not yet found what Mitchell needs. His latest foster mom has found both positive reinforcement and some 'time-out' techniques to be helpful. It does not matter how often we scoop the dogs out of danger and get their vet care done if we cannot find an appropriate home on the other end. We are looking for someone with incredible patience that will hang in long enough to fall head over heels in love with the boy. In short, Mitchy needs a miracle. Please help us find one for him. An application, which you will find on our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org is our first glimpse at potential adopters. A reference from your vet is next and then a home visit. We do all of that to screen for the best possible placement for each dog. Please help us help them.
