I am a youthful 9 years old, with lots of bounce in my step. I’d love to go for a walk with you, or better still, how about a jog! I have lots of energy and would love to live with someone who can keep up with me!
My parents adopted me from a breeder when I was just a pup, and was the only “child”. Over time we all grew up together, and then the human child came, and my parents had to move. I came with them, but my new home was a run outside the house. Because my parents both worked full time, I haven’t had a lot of exercise or ways to work off my energy (although I have kept my slim boyish figure in spite of that!). Finally my parents decided they wanted something better for me, a family with the time and energy to take care of me and love me, so they called this place called Lab Rescue.
I am in good physical and medical shape, although I have a couple of hot spots on my neck that are being treated. I’m going to live temporarily with another dog and her humans, until Lab Rescue finds the right family for me. Is that family YOU?

Miller is a wonderful, handsome chocolate Lab! You would never guess that he’s 9, he’s in great shape with a beautiful glossy coat. He’s been with a loving family his whole life, but most of the last few years he’s spent his days in a run at the side of the house only coming inside at night. He lived with two small dogs that he got along fine with. Miller is much more interested in humans than other dogs. He’s done fine with dogs at the dog park in the past, but because he wasn’t neutered at that time, he tried some humping. When he’s corrected, he backs off with no problem, and now that he’s been neutered, this should not be a problem.
Miller is a big Lab, tall but not overweight. He had no lumps or bumps that can be typical in a dog his age. He is a handsome dog, and he gives very gentle kisses. He also takes treats gently. He walks beautifully on a collar that’s a combination flat collar/halti. He is a confident dog, and will require an owner that understands they are the alpha, and will provide appropriate leadership to Miller. Like many dogs, Miller doesn’t like fireworks or scary noises (he has been known to hide under a table), so his new family will have to be careful around the noisier holidays (4th of July) to keep him inside, safe, and comforted.
Miller has been around adults and young children. We don’t know how Miller would do with cats, as he has not been around them.
Miller is crate trained and has been sleeping quite comfortably in his crate at his foster home. He is housebroken and safe in the house. He has had training and knows Sit, Stay, Down, Heel, Drop, Leave It and Off. We would still recommend that his new owner take him to training; it’s great for bonding and establishing leadership with a new dog, especially a big strong dog like Miller.
We would like Miller to go to a family where someone is home with him most of the time, and can build on the training that he has already had. Someone who is experienced with dogs and comfortable with providing the leadership and consistency he needs to know the house/pack rules would be ideal. Miller would be fine in a home with older children (because of his size); we would consider a younger children if they are dog savvy. An active family that can consistently give him the exercise he needs is a must; a tired dog is a good dog!
Miller is current on vaccinations, heartworm free and on preventive, and micro-chipped, and has his neuter date scheduled. Miller is located in San Jose.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
