My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Lewis aka 'Little Louie'. He is an adorable 2 year old Shih Tzu who is just the sweetest boy you'd want to meet. Louie came to us from a rural pound where he was an unclaimed stray. We find it amazing that no one would claim this dog as he has been a joy to foster and has been so good and well behaved. How could someone not want him back? But we now look upon this as Louie’s opportunity to find a loving forever home where he won't be allowed to roam free and get lost and not be claimed again. This is Louie’s time to find a true family that loves him and looks out for him and will offer him all the joy and happiness that he will give back in return.

Louie is a young dog so he requires a family who will exercise him daily and play with him. He is active and playful outdoors, but wonderfully, despite being a young guy, he is calm and mellow indoors. Once inside Louie likes to lie at your feet and be close by. He loves belly rubs and pets on his head. Louie will follow you from room to room but when you settle into one spot so will he. He doesn’t like being alone and will cry. It would be best for him if someone was home with him more often than not. He is crated when left alone and although he isn’t fond of being left, he settles in time and will be resting when you get home. Because he will initially cry when you leave, apartment or attached condo living won’t be the ideal placement for him.

Louie is fully house-trained and has not had a single accident in the house. Louie has not attempted to chew anything inappropriately or climb on furniture or destroy anything at all. He is just so well behaved in the home. Outside Louie enjoys going for walks and will walk forever with you. He loves all the sniffs associated with a walk and really enjoys looking at everything around him. Louie is great in the car. He likes to look out the back window to see where he’s been but also settles down in the passenger seat when he’s tired. He will be a great travel companion.

Louie is good with dogs and would do well in a home with another well behaved, friendly dog, as I think it would be nice for him to have a playmate. He would be fine being the only dog in the home as well, as long as he has regular interaction with doggie friends to keep his socialization up and allow him to play. He hasn’t been around cats so we don’t know how he would be around them. However, he’s so sweet I’m sure he’d get along well with one. I also believe Louie would do well with older children around 8 years or older. He is not being fostered in a home with kids, but he just has such a calm, even temperament and loves affection and we believe he would do well with older kids.

Louie is a smart dog and already knows the “sit” command and walks well on a leash. He will need a family interested in attending dog school with him though to continue his training and for socialization. He will be a hit at dog school and will show up the bigger dogs with his smarts and skills! All dogs need to be well behaved and well trained; this goes for the small dogs too! Louie is such a nice natured dog that we want him to stay that way which means rules , obedience, and exercise need to be established just like a bigger dog, for him to be a happy boy.

If you are looking for a good looking, sweetheart of a dog then Louie is the one for you. He needs a family committed to furthering his training and make sure he gets exercised and loved every single day. He will give a lot of love back and then some. Louie is a special dog who will make a loyal companion to his new family. He requires someone who will give him lots of snuggles every day...could this be you???

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
