Meet spunky, goofy Zoey. At 4 years old Zoey still has lots of energy and loves to run around and play. She loves to go for walks and does well on the leash but her nose does get the better of her occasionally and she can get off course sometimes. She also has a passion for swimming and loves to head down to the river to help keep her figure trim. She also loves to play ball and keep away with her favourite toys in the yard.
Zoey does settle down in the house but can be a sneaky thief when it comes to articles of clothing and toothbrushes. She is a bit of a kleptomaniac but she is attempting to work on it because deep down she knows she can be a good girl and doesn’t mean to steal everything. She does attempt to make it up to her humans by cuddles and kisses.
Zoey is currently in foster care where she lives with 1 cats, 2 other dogs and stays home for approximately 4-8 hours while her foster family is away at work.
Zoey does well with the dogs in her foster home but needs time for introductions to new canines and works well to take them together for a walk to let her know that the new member to the house is a friend. She does enjoy some rough and tumble play off leash in the fenced yard so would be better suited to medium or large playmates that can handle a good wrestle!!
Zoey has come leaps and bounds in her foster home with training and still requires a commitment to continue with her training. Zoey will need someone with dog experience and willing to keep a consistent routine. She does well with positive reward training and is very food motivated. She will do well as an only dog or another dog as long as introductions are made. Zoey needs to be alone to eat her meals and she is behaved for meal time if she is let into a room to eat with no interruption, she will paw at the door to let you know when she is done and will come out happy as can be.
Zoey would benefit from MUCH exercise. Long walks or runs, playing fetch or soccer in the yard, and swimming would be fantastic pass times for this vibrant young lady.

About Ontario Bloodhound Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Ontario Bloodhound Rescue (OBR) is a small, not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned Bloodhounds, placing them in loving, approved homes across Ontario and neighbouring States.

OBR is committed to placing homeless Bloodhounds into permanent, loving homes as family companions. All Bloodhounds in our care are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, are on heartworm prevention, up to date on vaccinations and provided any necessary medical care.
Our Bloodhounds are placed in a foster home where their temperaments, personalities and needs are evaluated so that we can find the best possible match between each individual Bloodhound and their adoptive home.

OBR remains committed to each Bloodhound for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the Bloodhound be returned to Ontario Bloodhound Rescue.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our Bloodhounds are located in foster homes throughout Ontario as well as some US states. Where each Bloodhound is fostered, is listed in their individual add. A submitted adoption application is required prior to meeting our adoptable dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption applications can be requested by email onbhrescue@yahoo.ca One of our volunteers will contact you to follow-up on your application. We have a small number of volunteers, so please be patient while we work on your application. OBR is committed to matching the right Bloodhound with the right family and we appreciate your patience. OBR reviews current applications on file for first consideration for the Bloodhounds we have available. If you would like to adopt a Bloodhound, please be sure to have your application on file.

All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes references and a home visit. An adoption fee is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each Bloodhound. OBR remains committed to each animal for the rest of their life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the Bloodhound be returned to OBR.

Bloodhounds require A SECURELY FENCED YARD. Invisible/underground electric fences don't work on these dogs. They get on a scent and are totally oblivious to anything else around them.....including traffic. Bloodhounds don't tie or chain well either. They are fine for apartment living as long as they get enough exercise.
All of our dogs are adopted to be 'in-the-house' family members. Bloodhounds are not for everyone, they can't roam free and can't be walked off leash. Please research the breed prior to requesting an adoption application.
