My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. Jack is the kind of guy who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet (while being initially just a bit shy) and truly kind with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a dog like Jack is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space or on the streets hiding in the shadows. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Jack from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special pup. Jack was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, spayed, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Jack...just 2 - 3 years old and 12 lbs. This is such a perfect size to be able to accompany his family just about anywhere and then fit perfectly onto a loving lap. Jack will always fit right in due to his great temperament. He is already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. Jack was one of the extremely lucky very young dogs to show great promise in his socialization skills at a very early age. The US rescuers couldn't help but fall in love with Jack! We all had a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving guy in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

As Jack becomes comfortable in her home, he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Jack in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and of course some lap or couch-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart guy like Jack and teaches them the skills to fit into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Jack would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Jack would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.

Jack was identified as a Dachshund/Schnauzer mix by his Tijuana rescuer. This is difficult to determine with certainty, but we can see both adorable and engaging breeds in this very sweet dog.

Jack appears to be a non-shedding or lightly shedding guy with the cutest black spots and scruffiest little face! Jack will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep his hair healthy and cottony-soft.

Jack will be arriving on transport in Boulder in late June. Applications are currently being accepted for our very sweet pup with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in this adorable ...and often very fun and entertaining best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
