My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

We are so pleased to introduce Charlotte, a super adorable and friendly 2 year old Pug/Beagle mix commonly called a Puggle. We can’t say enough about Charlotte and how wonderful she is which makes it so remarkable that someone abandoned this beautiful dog and leave her as an unclaimed stray in a rural pound. Charlotte deserves so much more and we are looking for a home for her now where she will never be abandoned again and will have the loyalty and commitment to her that she will give to her family.

Charlotte is a small/medium sized dog weighing 25lbs. She has a solid build and is super fit and healthy. She has the Pug colouring and curly tail but more of the Beagle size and body shape. Charlotte is a perfect sized dog for just about everything. She is small enough to take anywhere and to cuddle on your lap, but big enough to be active and athletic right along with you and participate in any activity you wish. Charlotte is extremely devoted to her people, particularly her foster mom, and is a dog that does want to go with you wherever you go, in or out of the home. She will accompany you to every room in the house, even the bathroom, so privacy is not a concept Charlotte understands. Whatever room you are in she will make herself comfortable and rest until you move. As I am typing this Charlotte is behind me sleeping on a pillow.

We honestly cannot say enough good things about Charlotte and it will be a very emotional time for her foster mom when Charlotte does find her forever family and leaves foster care. She has been such a joy to foster and she is such a sweet and loving dog. Some lucky person or family is going to hit the jackpot by adopting this dog. Charlotte is very affectionate and loves to give kisses. She will kiss everyone she meets if given the chance. If you are opposed to dog kisses then this isn’t the dog for you. She greets everyone very enthusiastically and doesn’t understand that not everyone is a dog person. Charlotte will try and climb on new peoples lap if they crouch down to pet her. She is also a pro at giving hugs. We are working on her jumping up as she does try and get very close to people so she can kiss them. She is easily corrected and we are working on having her sit when she greets people which is still a work in progress. Charlotte would be a great dog for a family with kids over the age of 4yrs that are calm and well behaved children that know how to treat a dog kindly. Charlotte will not enjoy rough handling or overly excitable behaviour. She needs a calmer home as she is still young and can get over excited herself if over stimulated by excited behaviours. So if you have younger children you will need to consider the activity level of your home and children.

Charlotte is house trained and does not require a crate. The only stipulation is that all food items need to be put away and well out of reach. Charlotte is a Puggle and food is their vice. Charlotte will eat anything she can find! So garbage, treats and all food will need to be out of access for her. Charlotte will also need to go to a family that understands that this breed mix is prone to obesity and her food must be monitored, over eating discouraged, and treats kept to a minimum. She is eating a top quality diet and loves her meals so strict adherence to food quantity must be kept. The absolute worst thing for Charlotte will be to be allowed to get heavy as it is so hard on her little legs. She is in prime form now and we expect her to stay in this shape moving forward. Charlotte also needs daily exercise and an active family or person who will ensure she is kept fit. Charlotte LOVES going for walks and will walk for as long and far as you like. She likes a fast paced walk, she certainly isn’t a strolling dog…she wants to move. She would even be a great running partner for someone who likes to run. Charlotte will need at minimum a fast paced 30min walk a day plus play time in the yard. Multiple walks a day would suit her even better if she could get that. The best part about Charlotte’s activity level though is that she is nice and calm indoors and doesn’t demand a lot of exercise. So if the weather is inclement and not suitable for a long walk, Charlotte will be just fine. She certainly enjoys cuddle times on the couch after a busy day as well so she must go to a home with someone who will cuddle her. Tough job, we know! In her foster home Charlotte has a couch that backs onto a window and she has made a cozy spot for herself on the top of the couch cushions where she can rest and watch the world outside.

Charlotte is being fostered in a home with other dogs and cats and is fine with all of them. She picks and chooses which dogs she will play with and definitely prefers the ones who like to run and let her chase them. She does not enjoy wrestling or rough play so won’t be suitable for a home with a dog that enjoys wrestling. But if you have a dog that enjoys being chased and wont overly bother Charlotte in the home then this may be a good fit. We know Charlotte would also enjoy being the only dog and getting all of the attention though. As for cats, her inclination is to chase them..she loves to chase things that run. Our cats are dog savvy and know not to run from her so Charlotte pretty much ignores them. She would be fine in a home with a dog savvy cat but would not be a good fit for a home with a cat that freaks out and runs from her. Charlotte has a fenced in yard in her foster home which is great for bathroom breaks and play time. It would be a nice bonus for her to have a fenced in yard but she is not a dog who enjoys time outdoors without her people. She could easily go to a home without a fenced yard too as long as she is given enough exercise and the children in the home (if there are any) are old enough to know that doors cannot be left open as she will run out. Charlotte is much too precious to all of us to have her slip out a door and be gone. She will need to be leashed when outside unless properly fenced.

Charlotte sleeps at night in bed with her foster parents. We tried a few different sleeping arrangements and this is the one that works best for everyone. She makes herself cozy at the end of the bed and sleeps like a brick all night long. She is a very good sleeper! She is happiest when close to her people so being kept away at night upsets her. So she will need to go to a family that will allow her to sleep at the end of their bed. She shares space with our cats and is fine with that. Charlotte is a huge suck and such a sweet dog. Her whole life revolves around her beloved family. Charlotte needs a home where someone is home more often than not. She will not do well in a home where she is left alone for a full work day. She is fine to be left for a few hours but because she is so attached to her people, we would want her in a family where she gets to spend as much time with them as possible. Alternatively, she would do well in a situation where she could go to work with her person. Charlotte is very quiet and gets along with everyone so she would love the social aspect of attending work. Charlotte is also great in the car and travels very well. She calls “shot gun” though and likes to ride up front. If those seats are taken she will begrudgingly sit in the back….unless the passengers lap is an option!

We could go on and on with positive attributes of this dog. She really is a gem. She is very well behaved but will need to attend obedience school with her new family so that everyone is on board with commands and she learns to respect all members of her family. Attending obedience school is a great bonding experience as well. Charlotte is very food motivated so a school that starts with food as a reward would be her choice!! If you are looking for a wonderfully natured little dog and love being outside and active as much as you love cuddles on the couch, then this might be the perfect dog for you!
