KALI: 3 year old spayed yellow female 60 lbs.
Kali was purchased from a breeder when she was 8 weeks of age. The couple who had her wanted a cute lab puppy but did not do the research before buying her on what it would take in owning an active dog. The couple worked fulltime, they then had a baby and Kali would jump up and knock the baby down. They could not deal with Kali so they chained her up in the back yard when she was 6 months of age. They would feed her, they would let her play with the neighbor’s dog and she would get to play with the cats they owned. GGLRR saw her for free on craigslist and reached out to the owners as Kali was not spayed. We spoke to them about her and we decided we could take her into our program to get her out of her situation and to make sure she would not turn into a breeding dog.
We now have Kali in our boarding facility and she will go to a foster home on Wednesday, this is what we know about Kali: We tracked down her vet and the office assistant was friends with this family. She said they brought her into the vet when she was 4 months old but Kali had not been back to the vet since. That they did reach out to try and deal with her puppy behaviors but they did not follow up. Kali was house trained at one time and at our boarding facility she is clean in her kennel. When she first came to us she did not want to sleep on the inside part of her kennel but she now will go inside and sleep on her nice bed at night. She does have a lot of energy, she will listen to what you ask of her; she wants to do the right thing. She has not been exposed to the world and she is cautious of things that she first encounters but once she knows all will be ok, then she is your best friend. It took her 2-3 days to understand the boarding facility is a nice place for her. She gets to play with other dogs but she really is more focused on playing ball. Kali is a dog that will play ball for hours! She is a dog that will need a couple of hours of exercise a day. She does ride well in the car, she likes to swim, she would be fine with another dog in the home and she is fine with cats. We would recommend Kali go to a home with older kids as she does jump up to try to give you hugs. She will need leash training as we are not sure she was walked on a leash that often. We feel Kali should not be a city dog as too many things will overwhelm her. Kali is a wonderful dog that needs to build more confidence and realize the world is a nice place.
Kali has been spayed, has her shots, had a well check, is heartworm negative, is microchipped, had her ears cleaned and was given many baths for all the fleas she has on her. Search and rescue x-rayed her hips and gave her thumbs up for no medical issues!
We sent Kali off to search and rescue and she did not make the entire program as she lacked the confidence in certain situations. We want to now find her a wonderful home! She is located in Gilroy.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
