Facts about Braveheart

  • Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier Mix
  • Color: Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut - With White
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Braveheart was spotted by our field volunteers in the 5th Ward, with a huge tumor - the size of a football - hanging off of a front leg while he was tethered in a backyard. We reached out to his owners, offering to get him treatment, and he was surrendered to our care. We did't know how long Braveheart lived at the end of a short chain, starving, and suffering from a football sized growth on his leg. We did know we could help him.

Braveheart was taken to the vet immediately where further examination revealed the growth to possibly be an overgrown/out of control abscess. His foster mom kept him comfortable while he gained some weight and ultimately the growth was removed and found to be non-cancerous!

Now Braveheart is a healthy, happy boy who is ready for a place to call home. He's 3-4 years old and weighs approximately 50-55lbs. He loves to play with other dogs (video link: https://www.facebook.com/ForgottenDogs5/videos/869040086510271/) and is really a cool dude. He aims to please and is a happy-go-lucky kind of fella! Does this sound like the kind of companion you are looking for? If so, Braveheart is your man!

For more information, or to adopt Braveheart, please contact his foster mom at kellek-9@peoplepc.com (be sure to mention you are interested in Braveheart!) or fill out an adoption application on our website - http://forgottendogs.org/adopt/application/ - Thanks!!

About Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project

About Our Rescue Group...

We rescue in an historical area of Houston called the 5th Ward. We founded Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project November of 2011 to address what we saw as an obvious need to help the many stray, abandoned, and neglected dogs we were seeing in there. We set up feeding stations and network and pull as many as we can when a foster home or no-kill rescue group says they can take them in. One of our goals is education and we provide residents with access to free spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations. In addition, we provide other vaccinations and worming in the field to strays that we can not immediately pick up. Since November 2011 we have grown in size and have rescued over 1,000 dogs, and a few cats, from the area. We are launching a program called Habitat for Hounds through which we will donate doghouses and blankets to residents for their dogs that are kept outside. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so all donations are tax-deductible.

Our Adoption Process...

You can find our adoption application online at http://forgottendogs.org/adopt/application/. Our adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs ages 2 and older and $175 for puppies up to 2 years old (plus an additional spay/neuter deposit on those that are too young at the time of adoption: $75 local, or $250 for long-distance adoptions). Long distance adoption transportation costs vary based on size/weight/breed of the individual dog being adopted. We have an adoption application and contract. All animals are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, if old enough, or, for young puppies, arrangements are made to have them spayed/neutered afterwards.
