Facts about Ranger

  • Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
  • Color: Brown/Chocolate - With White
  • Age: Puppy
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Ranger is a 7 month old Australian Shepherd Mix and he weighs about 25 pounds...just a little guy! At 7 weeks old Ranger was diagnosed with a parasitic blood infection (Neospora) that he unfortunately got from his mother in the womb. This caused the muscles in his hind legs to become permanently contracted so he can not bend them. He was treated with 8 weeks of antibiotics (it's not contagious) and has been doing hydrotherapy every week to keep the muscles and joints in his hind legs healthy and functioning as well as they can. He gets around great on his own and loves to run around and play with other dogs. He will not require hydrotherapy in the future as long as he remains physically active. Due to his physical limitations, Ranger will not be the type of dog that can go on long walks or hikes. Although he is a working breed and he loves to herd and watch over his environment, his physical activity should be limited. He walks on his toes (hind end only) so his physical activity should be kept light to moderate so he doesn't get sores.

Ranger is a bit of a shy guy that takes awhile to warm up to new people (he is not aggressive-just shy), but having another dog in the home will help him feel more comfortable and confident. Being out in social situations with a lot of people is a little stressful for him and he will try to hide when he is overwhelmed. Ranger is a very loyal boy that will follow his person everywhere, and he is very smart. He does great around all sizes of dogs, he does well with cats, and he his crate trained, but does well sleeping on his own bed wherever you are. We are recommending a home without children. He is house trained, current on vaccines/dewormer/flea & tick preventative, neutered, and microchipped.

About Heath's Haven Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Heath's Haven is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, organization dedicated to rescuing and improving the lives of special needs animals in the community. We specialize in the rehabilitation of animals with neurological conditions and mobility issues. The dogs are provided with everything they need to succeed in a forever home, including a wheelchair if needed.
We do this for the animals that would otherwise be looked over and euthanized. Our mission is to educate the public that special needs dogs can live a meaningful, healthy, happy life...just like any other dog!

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process for Heath's Haven Rescue starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. We will then contact the potential adopter to set up a Meet and Greet for the dog and the potential adopter. The next step is a "sleepover." This could be for one night, a weekend, or even as long as a week or two. We want it to work for everyone! Next, the potential adopter would fill out he adoption contract and submit their adoption donation of $150.
