They call me Shashimi! I was originally rescued by the MSPCA from a hoarding situation. There were lots of us cats and all of us feeling very shy and under-socialized so several different rescue groups and shelters worked together to find us all spots to go where we could get the extra care we would need. I and 3 of my feline family (Pudding, Fish and Bernie) were able to come here! As you can imagine when we first arrived we were all feeling pretty shy and overwhelmed. I took a little while to get comfortable but with lots of patience, coaxing and yummy treats I started to trust the people here and came out of my shell. I am considered a Special Needs adoption because I have a head tremor. This tremor has been present since I arrived and has not changed at all in the month I have been here. I eat, sleep, play and socialize just like the other kitties only I do it with a bit of a wobble. My veterinarian can't say for sure what is causing my head tremor without doing all sorts of special and really expensive testing but because the tremor hasn't changed and doesn't affect my quality of life he said I can get a chance to find a family to call my own and consider myself a Special Needs adoption candidate! I'm a quiet fellow who likes to enjoy the finer things in life like sunny windowsills, climbing up a cat tower, playing with toys and getting attention from my people. I am looking for a family willing to take home a Special Needs animal and with my shyer nature I am looking for a home with older children or adults. I had a rough start in life and I am looking forward to a bright future with you!

Before making the trip to visit the shelter we strongly recommend checking our website for information on adoption policies and procedures. Please understand that because we are a busy place and because so many animals need our care and attention, adoptions are on a first come basis and no animal will be put on hold. To inquire about a pet's availability or for more information, we encourage you to visit our shelter in person. Due to the high volume of interest, email and phone inquiries may not be returned on a daily basis. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your visit! www.capeannanimalaid

Our Adoption Process...

WE HAVE MANY MORE DOGS AND CATS AVAILABLE. SEE A COMPLETE, UP TO DATE LISTING AT : www.CapeAnnAnimalAid.org

To adopt one of our cats or dogs we ask that you come to the shelter during our operating hours. We have a one page application that can be filled out in person at the shelter or downloaded from our website and brought with you.

We ask that renters bring the name and contact number for their landlord. Home owners please bring proof of home ownership such as a mortgage statement, home owners insurance, property taxes etc. You can block out the financial amounts, we just need you name in conjunction with the property.

If you have existing pets, we ask that you bring the name and number of your veterinarian. If you know the office will be closed please bring your pets' veterinary receipts to show that your current pets are up to date with routine care and vaccinations.

Please be prepared to bring your entire family to meet any potential new pet as the animals may be more or less responsive to adults, women, men, and children. We want to ensure the pet is a good fit for the entire household.

If you are planning to adopt a dog or puppy and already have a canine family member at home, they must meet prior to adoption. It is important to see that your present dog and the perspective pup get along before bringing them home.

There is an adoption for each animal which helps offset some of the cost of care given to the animal prior to adoption. All of our animals are given a health exam by a licensed veterinarian, are spayed/neutered, and have received all age-appropriate vaccinations. All cats/kittens receive FIV/FeLv testing and dogs 6 months and older receive Heartworm/Lyme/E.canis testing.

All adopted pets are micro-chipped and sent home with a small bag of food, cats are sent home with a cardboard carrier if needed. Dogs receive a collar and leash if needed.

Adoption fees are as follows:
All dogs/puppies are $350
Kittens under 12 months $150
Cats 1 year to 5 years $100
Cats 6 years and older - Adoption Fee Waived

Before making the trip to visit, we strongly recommend checking our website for more complete information on adoption policies and procedures.

Pets can be adopted quickly, and although we update the pet list on our website daily, a puppy or kitten you see on our website before you leave may be adopted by the time you arrive. To inquire about a pet's availability or for more information please visit or phone the shelter (978-283-6055).

Because we are a busy place and because so many animals need our care and attention, adoptions are on a first come basis and no animal will be put on hold, we appreciate your understanding.
