This is Little Mr Fiji (Apple as nicknamed by HCAS) and he is part of a family of 5 that were placed in a crate and discarded along the side of the road to die, in Highland County Florida, just like someone who would litter the highway with their household trash. When they were discovered they had hardly a hair on them and their skin full of Infectious pustules that consumed their WHOLE bodies. SEVERELY NEGLECTED and in obvious distress, pain and discomfort, these babies had a very dismal future as they were discovered and turned over to the Highlands County Animal Services. The NEGLECT was SO SEVERE that one of the litter mates DID NOT MAKE IT. Highlands County Animal Services DOES NOT VET their intake animals and these babies were slated for euthanasia on Friday 5/29/2015. Upon discovering their story and the Urgency of their fate 5/28/15, due to the diligence of the volunteer group "Sebring,Fl Urgents - Please Save Us and their marketing strategy, we couldn't let these innocent suffering babies die. Highlands County Animal Services didn't even know what was wrong with them because they are not staffed with a vet BUT we decided to take a chance and SAVE these babies. Upon their arrival by transport, I had to use gloves to carry them because we were unaware if what they had was contagious or not. I had never seen a skin condition like this before or at least NOT this severe. I cried like a baby as I transferred these babies to my car. HOW could someone let this happen? They had to be quarantined and kept separate from our other rescues until they could be diagnosed. The very next day we were at the vet for the news, Demodectic Mange, Severe Skin Infection, Bacterial Infection, Upper Respiratory Infection, Conjunctivitis, Elevated Temperatures, Ticks between their toes and Fleas on the three hairs they did have. The GOOD NEWS....... Non Contagious Mange. The Down side to the good news, It is Harder to treat than the Contagious type. NOW OUR ROAD TO RECOVERY JOURNEY HAS BEGUN. We are SOOOO Happy with the recovery and diligence of these magnificent babies and are ready to place them, with their Forever families. They are crate trained and potty trained now but are still puppies with puppy habits. BEST TO GO WITH NO SMALL ANIMALS Please schedule an appointment to visit. ALL of our babies.
