Hope was surrendered to a shelter in rural Missouri. She was so scared when she got there that she hid under their car and had to be pulled out. Less than 12 hours later, Hope gave birth to 5 puppies. The shelter workers were concerned because, although she was taking care of her babies, emotionally she seemed to be shutting down. They put out a plea for rescue of this little family. When Hope and her babies got here, she was indeed very depressed but no dog can resist our charm forever and right about the 3rd day, she realized that she and her babies were safe and snapped out of it. We think that Hope is about 4 or 5 years old and she weighs 45 pounds. I DNA tested one of the pups and found that Hope is boxer/chow/rottweiler mix. When she was spayed, we found out that Hope was heartworm positive so we treated her and she did fine with that. She just needs to be retested in 6 months (in November). Hope is amazingly patient with the little dogs around here and puts up with their shenanigans daily. She is reliably house trained and doesn't chew on things. Hope isn't great on a leash yet but she's getting better. She is spayed, up to date on all shots, on heartworm/flea preventative, is microchipped and has had a dental cleaning. Hope's adoption fee is $250 with all vet work done.

About River City Chihuahua Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

In August, 2006, we branched off from a long association with Chihuahua Rescue and Transport in order to have a more local focus. You may have noticed that we have also branched off from rescuing only chihuahuas. As we were doing shelter pulls, it became harder and harder to pull chihuahuas for rescue and leave behind other small breed dogs that we knew were highly adoptable. So we started taking them also. Chihuahuas are first in our hearts but we have been very successful in finding wonderful homes for doxies, miniature pinschers and various terriers. If we have the means, the desire and the drive to rescue them as well, how could we not? I guess we should start calling ourselves River City Canine Rescue.
