My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FRANKIE: 1 year old, yellow male lab mix, 60 lbs.

Frankie was a stray in the Ukiah area. The shelter contacted GGLRR to see if we could take him into our program. They evaluated him and he passed all the temperament tests and was the honor student with all A’s!

We now have him with a professional trainer and this is what she has to say about Frankie:

Meet Frankie. He was a stray who was picked up and brought to a local shelter where he passed his evaluation with flying colors. Frankie is just around a year old so he is a young and energetic dog! He is social with other dogs but has a big play style that can overwhelm small or timid dogs. He needs guidance in learning that not all dogs want to romp and play as much or as hard as he does. Being a young dog, Frankie is continuing to learn all his basic obedience. A training collar is a big help in teaching him how to walk nicely on a leash, sit when asked, and to lay down. We have found he is eager to learn anything you want to teach him and wants nothing more than to please you. Frankie is also learning how to sleep in a crate at night, which we think is new to him. Although Frankie loves all people he’s met so far with us, children over the age of four would be best due to his size and exuberant movements. Even though he was brought in as a stray we feel he must have been raised by someone caring because Frankie loves affection and attention and will seek it out. He is a fun, loving, young dog who needs continued training and a family to call his own. If you want a new buddy to hike, play, and train with, Frankie is guy for the job!

Frankie needs to go to a family with older kids or if smaller kids a dog savvy family, a home where he will get more training and plenty of exercise. Frankie is a very smart happy dog and will make a wonderful addition to his new home.

He has his shots, is heartworm negative, is microchipped and GGLRR is working on his neuter. He is located in Windsor.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
