“ Were you looking at me??? ..He…He…Hello…I’m RUSTY….and… pardon me… but,I’m a little scared…, I’m just 1 year old and even though I weigh 71 pounds... this noisy shelter, makes me a tad nervous… plus life has been kinda rough for me… you see, I’ve been on my own for a while now… and boy could I tell you stories…maybe one of these days… But not right now, cause right now I want you to know, it may take a minute or two for me to warm up … (but if you give me gentle pets and use you soft voice…I’ll trust you a lot quicker… oh yes, I will!)… My new friends at the Tehama County Animal Care Center in Red Bluff, CA have taken a lot of time helping me learn that people are nice… Oh, did I tell you that I like to sit outside in the yard and get belly rubs and kisses (both make my tail wag and my heart really, really happy)… I like treats a lot too…and…I’ll walk really well on a leash or sit nicely for you to get some of those tasty goodies… I think that’s very important for you to know!
Something else you should know … I have this thing called Hypospadias (no, it’s not catching)… The easiest way to describe it is that when I was born, the opening of my urethra didn’t form the way it should and it’s on the underside of my penis rather than at the tip. The short story is, I don’t go to the bathroom like other male dogs. Guess it makes me kind-of a special needs boy, because you have to keep an eye out to see if I get any urinary infections, which are typically treated with antibiotics. Also, I might need surgery later on (or maybe not) But I just wanted to be up front about that stuff.
My dream is to become someone’s bestest friend, so if you're kind and loving, maybe you'd consider adopting me into your family... I think it would be SO amazing!
