Once upon a time, there was a little Cairn terrier named Peregrine, Perry for short. She was a tiny little pup with big ears, a big tail and a heart as big as the sky her namesake flies. Her coat couldn't make up its mind what color it wanted to be, so she looked like she was wearing a patchwork quilt of silver and fawn, black and sable. The name 'peregrine' means wanderer, and Col. Potter's Peregrine wandered from a commercial breeder to live with a family of other Cairn terriers in a little place called Endicott. Her foster mama said that one day she'd find a family of her very own, but until then they would love her, keep her safe and play with her every day. Perry was afraid that people would not want her because of her big ears and tail, and because there were so many other doggies looking for homes; some with cute little ears and little button noses and big brown eyes. But her foster mama picked the little pup up, snuggled her tight and she said, 'One day soon someone is going to look at your picture and fall in love with your gorgeous ears, your long, waggly tail, and your multicolored coat. They'll come pick you up and look into your eyes and see your heart as big as the sky, and they will take you home to live with them forever. There's someone special out there for everyone, little one, and they're looking for you right now!'
