My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You're a shining star No matter who you are Shining bright to see What you could truly be Shinning star for you to see
What your life can truly be. - from - 'Shining Star' by Earth, Wind & Fire
What can we say? Our handsome boy Shine....he really shines! Shine is a 3 year old white Labrador Retriever/Boxer mix weighing 50 lbs. He has a small patch of black on his tail and one of the cutest under bites we have ever seen. Shine was dumped at a high kill southern shelter by the very people who were supposed to love him and care for him. Even worse, he was quite emaciated and full of heartworms. Thankfully he was pulled into rescue (who could resist that cute mug?) His condition was so bad that his foster mom wasn't sure he would survive. It was touch and go for while but survive he did! Shine is finished with his 2 month long heartworm treatment and rehab. He is healthy, happy, and ready to live the rest of his life as a well loved and cared for boy. Shine is completely house trained and has excellent house manners. He was also very good in crate during his treatment. He has a loving goofy personality that automatically elicits a smile. He loves laying around in his favorite rocking recliner chair and has somehow figured out how to rock himself as he naps. He is awesome on leash and has good recall. Shine recently took a 12 hour journey to Texas to finish out his rehab and foster care. He quietly rode in the back seat with a 9 year old human boy and another foster sibling. He is without a doubt a wonderful travel companion. Shine enjoys going for short walks but really prefers hanging out inside and just taking it easy. He is a couch potato's dream come true. He does well with other dogs (currently in foster with 7 other dogs of all ages and sizes). He is good with cats especially dog friendly playful ones. He adores kids as soon as he meets them. He can be a bit shy with big people initially but is freely giving toothy kisses in no time. Shine would love a quiet laid back atmosphere even though he does well in a more active environment. When he's had enough excitement he just goes in and finds some peace and quiet. Shine is already neutered, micro chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and current on preventatives. This awesome boy is indeed a shining star for you to see and ready for what his life can truly be in a forever loving home with his forever loving family.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming
All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

VETTING NOTE: Double Dog Rescue completely vets our dogs thoroughly to the best of our knowledge based on communication with our Southern Vets. If anything is brought to our attention, we treat the dog. After adopting the dog, you will be responsible for following up with all vetting going forward.

HEARTWORM NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 5-6 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
