My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How precious is Esme?! This pretty little girl also has a loving, playful personality to go along with her adorable looks! But this was not always the case for Esme. When RESCUE saved Esme she was in horrible condition. She was matted from nose to tail and her mats were embedded with burrs and sticks. She was terrified of humans as well. She was dropped off at Animal Control in this condition by her "owners." They said they were moving. It was heartbreaking to know that she was intentiong treated this way.

We immediately began cutting away as many of her mats as we could, petting and resuring her as we went. I'm happy to say that as we worked Esme was beginning to like us. She gave a kiss and decided that laying in laps wasn't so bad.

With the tender, loving care of RESCUE's amazing volunteers, we were able to continue to show Esme that not all humans were uncaring. She flourished! We had to have her shaved completely but her strawberry blonde fuzz is growing in very nicely. Esme discovered that car rides and walks were a lot of fun. Other dogs were fun to play with and toys were cool too!

It's no surprise that Esme is a big favorite with the volunteers that worked tirelessly to help her know love and joy again. Here are just a few of their glowing notes:

“Esme is adorable, soft, loving, and, did I say, "adorable," already? I don't think she'll be here long, it will be quite easy to fall in love with this little puffball.”

“Oh my gosh!!! I think we've found the canine version of the slinky!!! Esme just loves to roll down hills, roll in puddles, roll in thick grass, etc. Its so entertaining to watch her just drop flip over a few times and hop right back up to run a little way and do it all over again. Esme is also very fun loving and playful. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She loves everyone immediately and loves nothing more than to have her belly rubbed. Esme is really so much fun to hang out with, but also is happy just doing nothing as well. What a great addition this little button is to RESCUE.”

Esme's forever home should have daily playtime, walks and lots and lots of cuddle time! Esme will need a home with another young active dog. She is quite friendly with fellow RESCUE dog Alfred. Adopting them together would be ideal. Esme is looking forward to starting the next chapter of her life. Please complete an application today. She is looking forward to meeting you!
