My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

This is Chloe and she is a very lovely 6 year old Pug. She came to pound dog rescue from a puppy mill operation where she was used for breeding purposes. Chloe has had many litters of puppies which is evident in her gentle and forgiving nature that only a mother could have. Chloe weighs about 12 pounds though she could stand to put on some weight. She was very thin when she first arrived to us but is now slowly putting some weight on. Gaining weight should not be a struggle for Chloe because she gobbles up her food at every mealtime and becomes especially excited when she knows she’s getting a treat. Chloe is currently on a gastro diet and this will be something she needs to remain on. Chloe is a sandy color with a black face and black ears. Her color is also known as “fawn” and is the typical color of a pug dog. She has big black soulful eyes that make you instantly smile when she looks up at you. Her tongue hangs out of the side of her mouth from time to time which adds to her character in a comical way.

If you are looking for a low energy dog, then Chloe could be the one for you. Since she was kept in confinement most of her life, she is quite content to just sit and snuggle on your lap. She will often race you to the couch and wait for you to sit down so she can be first in line to get a spot on your lap. She will also stay there until you get up and will be sure to follow wherever it is your going. This makes her the ultimate snuggle buddy. With that being said, she will not object to a walk on leash as she loves all the smells that the outdoors have to offer. Chloe will walk beside or behind you on leash and does not pull. She is sure to follow wherever you go and does not try to run away or take off. She doesn’t need long walks to drain her energy, a short sniff and stroll is fine for Chloe. She loves to lay in the sunshine. I realized this when she came to the cottage and would find a sunny spot on the dock where she could lay out and take a nap.

Since Chloe has not been properly socialized during her previous living situation, she tends to be quite timid and shy when she meets new people. She is not the type of dog that will happily approach a stranger to say hello and give them a big kiss. She takes awhile to warm up to people and is easily scared with sudden movements or loud noises. However, once she becomes comfortable with you, she will show you unconditional love and loyalty. She will follow you from room to room craving your attention and affection. It would be in Chloe’s best interest to live in an adult only home as the excitement and activity of children could stress her out. Chloe’s foster home consists of another pug dog as well as a cat, both of which Chloe gets along with. She is very passive with the cat and does not chase or torment her. She also gets along with the other 8 month old pug in the foster household. She has even taken on the mother role to the puppy and will clean her from head to toe and snuggle up with her on the couch. Chloe has a hard time understanding how to play with toys. Toys are new to her since she grew up in a puppy mill setting. Therefore, fetch is not exactly Chloe’s strong suit and toys that make noise don’t seem to intrigue her. But Chloe doesn’t need toys in order to show her excitement. She will happily chew on a chew toy or bone and will spin in circles when she gets really excited.

Chloe is completely crate trained. She prefers to be close to you so it might be best to keep the crate close by during the first few nights of transitioning her into your home. She stays in her crate while I am at work and has never had an accident in her crate. When taking her out of her crate, she gets so excited that she spins in circles and will sometimes go find an article of clothing to bring you. Whether it be a flip flop, a sock, or a toy, she seems to feel the need to bring you something when you walk through the door. Chloe needs a strict routine for house breaking, so whoever is interested will need to be prepared to work with her in this area. She will always go potty outside when you take her, but while in the house she needs to be supervised and taken outside frequently to prevent accidents. She catches onto routine quickly and always listens when you call her or correct any unwanted behavior. In fact, you have to be quite gentle with this girl as she is sensitive. A gentle but firm approach to training has proven to be most effective for her. Chloe will do anything for food. She is able to sit, stay, and lay down and learned these commands quickly since food was involved. She is highly food motivated, making her easily trainable. Chloe is great in the car, and has learned to jump in and lay on her pillow in the passenger side. She doesn’t make a fuss and will just lie down and go to sleep even if the car ride is a short one.

Chloe is a dog that will touch your heart the moment you look at her. Her calm and docile temperament makes it easy to be with her all the time. She deserves to be with a companion who will pay her plenty of attention and give her all the love and affection that she is always looking for. She needs a forever home, someone who is devoted to spending lots of time with her and who doesn’t mind having a shadow following them around everywhere. Chloe is a happy and healthy pug girl looking for someone to give her snuggles everyday. Is Chloe a match for you?
