My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Danny is an energetic 1-year-old Plott Hound/Great Dane mix with a beautiful brindle coat and sweet temperament. Unfortunately for this wonderful boy, he has been quite neglected - no one has bothered to teach him basic manners. So now at Lizzy's Lodge he is beginning to learn many things he missed out on in the early months of his life.

Danny likes meeting people and does not jump up, although he has tried on occasion to be a lap dog, a difficult proposition considering most laps can't accommodate 80#. He seems uninterested in other large dogs, and has yet to meet the small dogs and cats. However he doesn't appear to have much prey drive. He's interested in people and his environment, but not bothered about other animals.

Danny definitely needs work on house manners. He's quite curious about anything he can see on top of counters. We suspect he was often hungry, but is less anxious now that he knows he'll always have plenty to eat. He continues to work on house training. Danny loves riding in the car and walking on a leash, although he does pull. He is not destructive at all. He is also learning some basic commands. In all of these areas, Danny is improving and continues to learn appropriate behaviors. He loves to connect with people so is happy and responsive, with excellent eye contact, in his interactions when training or playing. The one and only thing he absolutely cannot tolerate is being crated.

Danny doesn't appear to be afraid or nervous about anything. He's easy going, still puppyish, but gentle and affectionate. He will need a secure environment, as he could easily jump fences, and plenty of room to run and play. We are looking for a loving home for this handsome fellow; one that has the time to help him further develop his social skills. He is very smart and quite food motivated, so the training will be rewarding and fun for both Danny and his family. He is going to be an amazing dog for the family lucky enough to share their lives with him.
