My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little Ryker was left at a shelter which would have been a death sentence for a dog like him. He is a beautiful pure bred BLUE shepherd. That means he has a recessive color gene that produced a blueish grey, smoky type coat. He has a grey-brown nose instead of all black and light colored paw pads. The main reason he was discarded like that is the fact that he has a congenital eye condition (from birth) which has made him totally blind. He will always be blind and no surgery or treatment will cure it. Make you sad for him? Well, he is sure not sad...Ryker is a happy go lucky playful puppy. He has medium energy and likes to run and pounce on things as well as chase other dogs around. To play fair the other dogs wear a little jingle bell : ) He enjoys short walks (when he gets bigger he can go longer distances and even go on runs but puppies must wait til they are almost a yr old to be a running companion due to their joints still forming). He is good on a leash and follows people and other dogs on the walk. I have to say though he is mostly an inside dog...the boy LOVES THE A/C.

He needs someone with a lot of time and patience to let him "map" his way around the house/yard to get his bearings. He will need a family with someone home a lot of the time. Changing furniture often or configurations inside the home is frowned upon and a secure fence is a must so he does not get out and lost. He would benefit most from a home that is not a loud chaotic place because loud/unfamiliar noises can startle him.

He is currently in a foster home where he is working on the following things: sit, down and come commands. He is learning the "careful" command to alert him if he is heading for trouble or a bump on the head. He has learned that a certain mat on the floor can mean his water bowl is here or the back door is here or front door is here. He also has his own radio playing on top of his crate which serves as a beacon, a locating device for his crate and safe zone. He cuddles after a hard day of playing and still takes puppy naps several times a day.

He sleeps through the night at 10 weeks which means he is super smart and very thoughtful to his foster parents. He still has accidents in the house but not very often and only when everyone is playing and they forget to take him out.

He follows foot steps and really likes flip-flop sounds. So, if you want to consider Ryker to be a member of your family you will need to be the kind of person who likes to be needed...Ryker wants, needs and deserves a lot of love...but he is ready to give back tenfold.

Please feel free to ask questions if you think you might be the right home for him. We are searching for a perfect match for this sweet boy!

Ryker has seen a specialist who confirmed he is totally blind and nothing can be done...but on the good side he is learning his way around the house and trying to play with the other dogs. He loves all people, likes to cuddle when he tired and sleeps through the night...he is a very sweet boy. He had his second set of shots today and did not enjoy that .If you are interested in adopting Ryker, please go to our website to complete our adoption application and someone will get in touch with you.
