My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Poco is a sweet dog who give licks when you reach out to her. Poco is, however, afraid of her own shadow. She is OK with some other dogs but wants to get away from most big dogs. To Poco, most dogs are big dogs as she is only 3 1/2 -4lbs. This tiny character will charge a barrrier with a big dog on the other side of it, as if she's Cujo. Her bark is HUGE for a small dog and she is going to need ongoing training to control her barking. Poco gets along with other tiny dogs and with cats as long as the cats don't pick on her. She can be afraid of a cat who is too curious.

Poco has kindey disease though we aren't sure the cause or what course it will take. She needs lots of love and careful monitoring. She has also had pancreatitis. She is prone to "tummy aches" and requires a low fat, raw diet. She also has a severe flea allergy when she is not on a fully raw diet. When she was in our care and on 100% raw food, her flea allergy disappeared. In her foster home (where she sometimes gets table scraps), it has been an ongoing issue. Granted her kidney condition and declining health coudl make her more attractive to fleas and so the true cause may be a combination of factors.

Poco would do best in a home where someone is with her day and night and lets her sleep in bed with them (a very low, bed with carpet below as she cold break a leg falling/jumping out of a bed). She doesnt' like being picked up (gets very scared and might urinate) but does like to snuggle on the the bed and be under her own little blanket. She is not a purse dog, and should not be taken to any place that is crowded with people or dogs. She does love walks and would gladly walk around the block 5 times a day if you let her.

If you want to know more about poco, please write to use with your "Pet Owner Bio" explaining your pet experiences, and your financial ability to care for a special needs pet.
