I am already neutered, purebred, up to date with shots, not good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.
Meet Mack! He is a 2 year old neutered German Shepherd who was found as a stray in July. He has been at the shelter longer than any dog we currently have. Mack will need an adopter who has previous shepherd experience and knows the breed. He is an extremely sweet boy once he becomes comfortable, which can sometimes take him a while. Mack is very nervous around men. He would do best in a household where it is predominantly women or the men are very knowledgeable in training and behavior. Our kennel staff has been working hard to get to know him and he is now becoming playful in a room and is starting to let his personality show. Mack is a very fearful boy and would do best without any medium or larger dogs animals in the home. However, he does wonderful with dogs ranging from about 10-15 pounds. A home without any children would be best for Mack. His future owner will need to be patient and willing to help work him through his fear. We have loved getting to know Mack and have seen such an improvement since he's been at the shelter and has been shown love. He had a hematoma in his right ear and an ear infection which we treated. We will be placing Mack through Redemption German Shepherd Rescue. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Mack, please contact Redemption Rescue or the shelter!
The Michiana Humane Society has been helping our community's unwanted animals find homes for nearly 100 years. We believe that animals belong with families, and we do whatever we can to make that happen!
Come Meet Our Pets...
The shelter is currently open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for adoptions. You can find news of our activities on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MichianaHumaneSocietySPCA) or our website.
Our Adoption Process...
Looking for a dog or cat? Here's how we do adoptions at MHS. Come into the shelter and find the pet you want to add to your family. Fill out an application form and leave it at the front desk. Then you call us the next morning to find out if you're approved!
Once your adoption is approved, if the pet is already spayed or neutered you can come in, complete the adoption contract, and take your baby home.
If a spay or neuter is required, MHS will schedule it within the next week. Once your pet's surgery is complete, you can come in and pick up.
Adoption fees are $135 for dogs and $85 for cats. That includes all initial vaccinations (except rabies), spay or neuter if required, heartworm or feline leukemia testing, and flea treatments.
