My name is Dozer #2!

DOZER is a 10 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 79 pounds. Dozer is an owner surrender due to not being able to give him the time and attention he needs.

Mar 31, 2017: Dozer is a playful pup with super soft ears. He is very athletic and loves walks and playtime. When you pull out his harness and leash, he does little bunny hops to show you how happy he is to walk with you. Dozer is a big fan of all sorts of toys and will happily help you clean out your toy basket. Balls and squeaky toys seem to be his favorite and he loves a game of fetch. This boy is a lover of belly rubs and hugs and wants to make sure you know how loved you are when you come home from being away. He as no issues being left for a typical work day. He is house trained and does not need to be crated, as long as you clear the counters of any food goodies before you leave. Dozer has recently learned to sit and wait patiently before being released for breakfast and dinner and he does not beg for human food, although may drool a little bit. He is wonderful on car rides and will quietly lay on the back seat.




Dozer is an AKC registered lab (registered name Jack’s Bull Dozer). He was originally purchased as a puppy by a co-worker of the current owner. His original owner kept him outside with little/no training for 6 years. His current owner has had him for the last 4 ½ years. When his current owner adopted Dozer, with the help of her husband, she was able to spend time every day with him and got him to a good place where he could run off-leash on their unfenced 4 acres. He had a good recall and stayed with her. Unfortunately, life changes made it difficult to give Dozer the time and attention he deserves. Dozer has been living in a 20 x 30 pen (6 foot chain link), with a dog house, access to the patio/shade, and a kiddie pool. Although Dozer is 10 ½ years old, he is an active and healthy mature dog. Dozer is looking for a family experienced with big, energetic dogs where he will be an active family member. His new family should provide him with moderate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Dozer is a pretty good retriever and enjoys fetching his orange retriever dummy. He would do best in a fenced yard (preferably 6 foot) where he could safely run off-leash to fetch. (No invisible fence as he will run through it.) Dozer should never be allowed off-leash in an unfenced area because he has a history of running off, usually after interesting sights, sounds, and smell. At one time, his owner spent time working with him and was able to improve his focus and recall. Given time, patience, bonding, and structured training on a long lead, Dozer can achieve a reliable recall. Dozer is approved for kids ages 10+.

Fencing: 6 foot solid fence required (dog will clear 4 foot fence)

Update: Dozer walks nicely on leash and enjoys long trips around the neighborhood. He doesn't mind his crate at all and will actually go in there to nap throughout the day. Dozer doesn't need to be crated and has no issues being left out unattended, with the exception of checking out what you may have left on the counter. Dozer likes his people and particularly enjoys climbing up on the couch for a snuggle!

Update: Dozer is a very friendly guy, but doesn't jump on people. He kind of bounces up and down in a happy/funny way when he is excited. Dozer likes balls and stuffed animals, long walks and like most labs, enjoys any food you want to give him! He is house trained and does not need to be crated, but will check out your countertops if you leave snacks unattended. Dozer strongly believes age is just a number and has more pep in his step than the average 10 year old!

Dozer is a character. I spent time with him over the weekend, and I couldn't believe how energetic he was. He loves to go for walks and is strong, so must be walked with an Easy Walk harness. He is a happy-go-lucky boy who has no clue of his age. This boy has places to go and says he feels half his age. If you want to meet Dozer and free up a foster home for another needy senior dog at the shelter, this is your chance to gain a walking companion and snuggler on the couch.

Update: Dozer is a happy go lucky 10 year old pup. He's very active and playful for his age and is looking for a human he can have fun with. Dozer likes to give kisses and de-stuff the occasional stuffed animal. He enjoys playing outside and requires a 6 foot fence to make sure he doesn't go out seeking new friends. He walks well on leash and has beautiful eyes!

Update: Dozer wants his future forever family out there to know how much he LOVES his squeaky ball. It's just the best!! He also wants them to know that he's patiently waiting for them, and he's being a very good boy at his foster home. Dozer loves playing fetch in the yard and will drop the ball at your feet. Update: Dozer continues to settle into his foster home nicely. He's looking for an active and playful family, because this 10 year old refuses to let age slow him down! Dozer has been loving his long walks in the neighborhood. He's also a bit fan of Peanut Butter Kongs, snoozes on his dog bed and destuffing toys. Typical Labby!!

Update: Dozer is doing very well. He has a lot of energy for a 10 year old! He is a happy boy and wants to play, and give kisses. He loves his stuffed animals too! He walks really well on the leash and doesn't pull, and he has the most beautiful eyes!

Update: Dozer loves these fall days. He loves hanging in the backyard. Dozer continues to work on his manners, now learning to wait till he is told he can eat. He believes he is a lap dog and will crawl in to your lab. Loves going for a walk even jumping for joy when the leash comes out. He's ready to find his forever family - is it you?!

Update: Dozer has been getting used to this indoor living stuff. He is great on his leash! When the leash comes out for walks he does a little dance to show his excitement. He is doing his best to stay young. His favorite things to do is play fetch and play in water.

Update: Dozer continues to prove that 10 is just a number. He is great on the leash. He is good with other dogs. Likes to play with the other dogs he meets on the walk. No counter surfing, still needs gentle reminders about his commands. He really would like his forever home soon! Watch him play tug with his human foster brother in the video.

Update: Dozer is a sweet and energetic 10-year-old male. It's clear he doesn't believe his 10. He has spent way too much time living outside and is learning that life is good on that couch. Loves his toys and balls, often seen carrying them around. Loves to chase them but needs work on bringing them back. No counter surfing. Knows he his commands but needs gentle reminders. He loves humans and will do whatever it takes to be with them as much as possible, often seen inching his way to be closer and closer to foster family.

Update: Dozer absolutely LOVES people! He enjoys attention and being petted. But, he is big and strong and would do best in a home with no little ones or elderly since he might accidentally knock them over. Dozer is good with dogs of all sizes. His owner had a Cairn terrier/Shih Tzu mix that lived inside. While the owner didn’t allow them to play together because of the size difference, they would take leash walks together and did fine. Dozer has lived in a rural area with limited opportunity for socialization with other dogs, so he’s never really had the opportunity to play off-leash with other dogs. Off-leash dog play will be new to him so his new family will need to supervise accordingly. He recently attended an adoption event and did well with meeting the dogs there. Dozer is good with smaller dogs – he tends to ignore them. He is good with larger dogs, too, but will warn them with a quick grrr if they charge him or get in his face too long. Never a bite or snap or even a bristle – just a bit of a growl or low bark to say that’s enough, have a little respect, will ya?

Update: Dozer is a strong boy and pulls on a lead so a no-pull type harness is recommended. Dozer knows some commands like sit, stay, and come. He has been trained to wait for his food – his owner snaps her fingers to get his attention, points to her eyes for eye contact, and he will wait until she points to his food to release him. Dozer loves treats but gets excited and needs to work on taking them gently. He likes to ride in a car but thinks he should help you drive so he should be crated or tether when transported, or use a barrier to keep him from jumping up front. Otherwise, he does fine in the car.

From the transporter: Dozer is a very handsome and super sweet dog. If I was in a position to, Dozer would be coming home with me! After he sniffed around and did his "business", Dozer jumped into the back of our vehicle and immediately found the tennis ball. We had a couple of squeaky toys which he enjoyed playing with along the ride. He was very well behaved and did pretty good on the lead. He met a small dog at the vet office but the small dog was a bit growly so Dozer happily moved along. Such a great dog! From the vet: Doesn't act 10 at all!
