My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. ADR is not responsible for the health, temperament, behavior or placement of this dog. Listings are done at the request of the dog's owner and as an outreach and community service in hopes of finding these dogs a loving, stable forever home. Placement decisions are made solely at the discretion of the owner, and not Austin Dog Rescue. Owners are required to ask for an adoption fee from adopters.

This is the information that we received from Betty's family:

I feel like I must seek a new home for my mid-sized Lab mix, Betty. She needs to be alone. No other dogs, no other cats. She has a fear of other dogs when she's on a walk or at Petsmart (she did manage to pass the puppy class, but it wasn't easy for her because of her fears). Her reaction is to bare teeth and growl. If you have caged pets, there's nothing to worry about. I had 2 rats for a few years, and she never was interested in them. She only fusses at other dogs and cats. She wants to control them and assert dominance over them. I have tried having a dog trainer help us and it did help some, but when we’re at work, the dogs are all together and unsupervised. I contacted the trainer, and asked what I should do, and he suggested finding her a home where she can be the only pet.

Here's the good about her: to her people she is sweet and loving, wants attention, wants to play, follows you everywhere and waits for you to dote on her. She is in excellent health, 4 years old, spayed, and had all her shots renewed last month, including a 3 year rabies shot, heart worm negative and no fleas. She knows the commands, "sit" and "leave it" (ignore whatever she's interested in and turn her attention to you). The Petsmart class had us pick other words for "come here" so she knows "move it" to come when called. I honestly don't know if she'd be ok with children, as she's never been around them. So I know this is a difficult scenario, but she is a dedicated, loving companion dog that can make someone an awesome pet.
