My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our foster dogs live as family members in the foster home until chosen for adoption. If you are interested and live within an hour's drive of Cincinnati email her foster mom, Donna, doffen28@aol.com for more information on how she can become part of your family.

**********IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS*******
direct any and all questions (that includes fees and location) about this sweet pup to her foster mom, Donna, by email doffen28@aol.com Using any other email will just add a delay in you getting the info.

Meet Maize, she is a beautiful 43 pound Shepherd mix. She was found as a stray so we do not know her exact age but out veterinarian estimates she is around five years old.

Here is what Maize's foster mom has to say about her:

The first things I noticed about Maize are:

She loves our other dogs. She especially loves our hound Charlie. They walk together, sleep together, lounge near each other, it's very heartwarming. It is unknown how she does around cats.

She is very shy around humans. This girl must have had painful experiences at the hands of humans. She will duck from your hand when you reach out for her. We have worked with a professional trainer and while Maize has made some progress over the last year she is still very wary of being touched.

Ideally she will be placed in a home who has experience with extremely shy dogs. She will let us touch her while she’s resting on her bed, but she does not approach us for love or affection, and she possibly never will. If we try to touch her when she is out in the backyard she will scurry away to keep a distance of about 2ft from us.

She does however love to lounge in the same room as us and she will wag her tail when we arrive home. Note: although she can get easily frightened she has never bitten, snapped nor even growled at a human.

In order for Maize to thrive in her new home she will need another dog. I cannot make an exception, she simply needs a canine companion in her new home.

She loves to chew bones. In fact almost nightly she lounges on the floor with a bone in between her paws and chews away. So if you are willing to supply her with bones that is a huge plus! Chewing appropriate items keeps her from destroying her dog bed when she get anxious.

She is completely house trained, she walks nicely on a leash and she is not much of a barker. Overall she is very easy to live with. She just needs an adopter who will accept her for her who she is.  We will pay for a trainer to come to your home to provide detailed advice on how to integrate her into your home.

The family interested in Maize will need to live within a 1 hour drive of Cincinnati and be willing to meet a couple of times before we decide if she’s a good fit for your’ home. The first visit (we’ve found from experience) she will most likely sit very frightened without interacting at all.

You can contact her foster mom, Donna, by email doffen28@aol.com for more information on how she can become part of your family.
