Belle - Only $35 adoption!'s Story...
Belle (DSH)
Only $35 Adoption!
This sweetheart was saved off the euthanasia list at one of the big shelters. I have really enjoyed fostering this little one! She is soooo sweet and affectionate. She rubs up against you and weaves between your legs. Especially if you are in the kitchen making her something to eat. She is also very playful. She plays with all the toys. Jingle balls, stuffed mice, even the dog toys.....She also loves the big cushy beds, and I will often find her laying right in the middle of one of the big dog beds. She also sleeps in bed with me at night. Belle loves to look out the window and watch the birds too. She is a quiet little one, and has been such a joy. Ever once in awhile, you will hear a soft meow from her as if she's talking to you. Especially when she's around the dogs. I am holding out for her to go to a home that has at least one friendly dog or cat for her, because she LOVES other animals so much, and it will help her settle in if she has a buddy. When she first got here, she was very scared. With an animal that is scared, if you slowly blink at them, it is a signal that you mean them no harm. From the very beginning, when I did that to her, she did it right back to me. She still does.....Which is very cool, because it is a communication, and not all animals respond to it.

PLEASE NOTE: All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come here. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. The pets here are always improving.

Age/Birthday: Birthday is 6/26/15

Weight at last Vet visit: 3 lbs (this was when she was only 5 months old. She has grown up to be a small cat.)

Cats: She lived with cats in her previous home. She is affectionate and playful with them. She will rub up against them and is very loving. Unfortunately, my 15 yr old cat does not appreciate it and has not liked having another cat in the house. Even though little Belle gets hissed at by my cat, she still stays very sweet towards her. She is just a great little cat!

Small Dogs: Yes, she plays with my little 8 lb. dog, and has tried to get the other little foster dogs to play with her. If they are to scared to come out of their crate, Belle will just go right in with them! She is also very affectionate with them. She cuddles with my little dog and they clean each other. Very cute!

Large Dogs: Yes, when she first got here, she connected the most with my oldest large dog. She would weave in between his legs and sleep right up next to him. Sometimes on top of him. She loves dogs and has been very affectionate with all the big dogs here.

Kids: Unknown, but I would worry that small children might be to rough with her.

Men: Affectionate once she knows them.

Women: She has been a little love bug. I can't say enough good things about her!

Strangers: Belle will watch them from afar at first. The more they come over to the house, the closer she will get as she gets used to them. The way to her heart is through food. When she first got here, she wouldn't let me pet her. but when I gave her canned food, she was so focused on the food, I was able to pet her while she ate. That's how I got her used to my touch. She will be very scared when she first comes to your home. So you will need to be patient and give her time to adjust. A new home, with a new routine, with new people, and new pets will be a lot for her to take in. But she will come around like she did here if you just give her time.

Food: I feed all the cats on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day?
She can be a little picky with food. For dry food, she has liked Feline Caviar (wild ocean flavor), Pride by Instinct (Diva's recipe), Natural Balance (Both the venison/turkey/lamb, and the rabbit/rice/salmon flavors), and Wellness (salmon/turkey flavor)
For the canned, she likes wild caught salmon (humane grade), and also the Friskies (any one of the flavors in the "Gravy pleasures" line)
All cats are fed canned food for breakfast (6 am) & dinner (4 pm), & have a full bowl of dry food out all the time. Belle is a little pig though. She has a small frame, but has a little "Buddha belly" with all the food she eats, lol.

Litter Box Trained: Yes, I use the scoopable

Scratch Pad Trained: Yes, I use the cardboard type that lays flat on the floor. I personally think this is the best kind, I refresh the scratch pad every month by spreading fresh catnip on it. She goes nuts over it! She is drawn to scratching on wood, so I put the scratch pad over by where she liked to scratch, and I now see her using it.

Other issues: None, she adorable!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Belle - Only $35 adoption!, a Litchfield Park Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Litchfield Park, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Litchfield Park.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Litchfield Park already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Litchfield Park breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Litchfield Park paves the way for another one to be saved.
