In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Beethoven is a handsome Shih Tzu male who will be 12 years old in October. Even though he is almost 12, his energy level is that of a much younger guy. He is a sleek 14 pounds and has a twinkle in his beautiful brown eyes. He came into rescue when his owner went into a senior living facility and could not take him with her.

Beethoven is a very happy, sweet little boy who loves to snuggle and be petted. He will always let you know that he has not received enough petting by gently pawing your hand or arm. He wasn't much of a player when he first came to his foster home. However, after watching his foster family's own Shih Tzu play fetch and squeak his toys...he decided it looked like fun! He now has a couple favorite toys that he will chase when thrown and will wrestle with before wanting them to be thrown again. Beethoven is housetrained and his foster parents are teaching him common commands such as “sit, stay, and lay down”. It’s not true that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! He is very smart and likes to please, so his learning is going well. He is also learning to walk on a leash. He is a work in progress, but he has improved quite a bit and is a quick study.

At night he loves to sleep on your bed and does not move all night. He will have an early wake-up call to go potty usually around 6 a.m., but will go back to sleep after that.

He has done very well with his foster family's own dog and does not react when approaching or passing other dogs on a walk. He will do well in home with other dogs. He hasn't been around children. However, his temperament makes us believe he would be fine in a home with older respectful children.

Beethoven is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $120.00 plus $8.73 sales tax for a total of $128.73. His foster parents would like his adoptive home to be within 75 miles of the Twin Cities and also encourage them to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year.

To meet Beethoven, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
