My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

~adoption fee applies – if serious about adoption please email caarescue@gmail.com~
My name is Montégo! Or Monty for short
I was surrendered to an animal control shelter off island and when they could not find adoption for me they sent me to another shelter. Finally a very kind foster family heard that I needed a place to stay until my forever family found me so they offered to help me out by fostering me.
I am soooooooooooooo happy now!
I am house trained and like to do my business outside. I have not had one accident in the home since joining foster care.
I am working really hard on the leash training with my foster family, clearly I had no leash manners before joining them but am trying really hard not to pull. With the right patient family I know I will get to the point where I will be a perfect canine citizen on walks
I am vocal though so apartment life won’t work for me! Even though I am little I have a big bark and like to use it especially to warn my foster family of potential impending dooooooooooom! Which, seems to me, happens quite often! I am a little protector man and while I may be small when I am around you will have no fears as I will always have your back!
I do suffer from separation anxiety at this time in foster care. I have not been left alone for any extended period. My foster family is still working on stepping out into the garden while leaving me in the house without me barking. So we are taking baby steps to help me with this. I have a feeling though with the right positive family I can get over this, while I probably will never ever be happy being left alone I think I could learn to tolerate it. All I need is to gain a little confidence and to trust that I am not being abandoned again or being propped up in a pet store again or being moved to a shelter again or another shelter again…… I really need my next move to be to my forever home for LIFE.
I am very people friendly… I love, Love, LOVE people!
I am not being crate trained.
I have not been tested with any cats or small children. Preferably a home with no children or older children for me.
I do live in foster care with two other Chihuahuas and we get along fine. I have met some other dogs here and there and generally like meeting them but if there is a too excited or pushy or dominate dog I get very nervous and uneasy. A calm and balanced pack is my preferred choice for doggie playdates and friends
I am very sweet and affectionate – & did I mention I LOVE people?!?

I may be a dog but I am a Chihuahua first though so remember that I like to be attached to people, I will run the household and can be finicky with my food just because…. I dislike the cold and would rather make snuggle bums under the covers hoarding all the toys in the house!
I am a typical ChiMan and will have to sleep in bed with you under the covers and if you have a partner you will have to understand that I will have to sleep in the middle of the bed between you. ChiBaby Loving First! & partner loving comes second!

I show absolutely no food or toy possession or aggression in foster care at this time
I am a typical Chihuahua: smart, loyal, passionate and a gentle loving character with those that I love dearly

My foster family has this to say about me: Monty is very sensitive and needs gentle touches and soft speaking manner. We think he is very smart, in such short time we've had him, he has learn how to sit and give you the paw. He is treat motivated to learn what you want to teach him.
We can't say enough about him, he truly is a great dog. We adore him and the family that will adopt him will be extremely lucky to get him. Monty is people friendly and dog friendly. Does not like dogs that are friendly aggressive, but loves gentle friendly dogs, no issues there. We also think he will do well when not left alone for long hours, especially if he is going to be the only dog in the house.
