Rock is a very handsome male Shih Tzu with a shiny black non-shedding coat sporting a white goatee, chest flair and two white front paws. Rock was turned over to another shelter because his family was “moving” and couldn’t take Rock with them. His birth year is 2014 but we don’t know the exact date. He was born with a deformed back leg but managed to get around on the remaining three. Fortunately, Rock arrived at the Safehouse on 07/07/2016. We believe all dogs deserve a chance at a normal life and, on 07/28/2016, Rock underwent major surgery to repair his damaged leg. Weeks of pain meds and required crate rest (try to keep a 2-year-old down!!!) followed by more weeks of physical therapy and we now have a very active, running, jumping, healthy adolescent that will need obedience training to help him get his exuberance under control. Rock goes nowhere without his Kong© toy and will share it with no dog. Although Rock gets along with other dogs, he will do best as an “only dog”, in a home with older children. He is very friendly, even through all the pain of recovery examinations, he charmed everyone with his gentleness. Rock is housetrained to a point but will need time and patience to learn your household rules and routine. His future as a normal happy beloved pet has already begun; he will need no special care, only the warmth of a loving home and a very special forever family.
