Doves are a symbol of peace and love, as is our foster beauty Dovey who is a Lab/Pyr blend (approx DOB 6/2008). Dovey had a sad, rough start in life- it became clear she had had a liter of puppies when the ACO picked her up. Her babies couldn't be found. They took her into the shelter, but she grieved for her babies and escaped in a fruitless effort to find them. After a month, she returned to the outskirts of the shelter. They brought her back inside the shelter where they deemed Dovey to be a "flight risk". We were notified by a volunteer at the shelter about Dovey, and he begged us to take her.
Dovey was wary and lacked confidence at first. With determination and patience, that barrier was broken and she is now very self-confident but needy of her humans and lots of TLC. She is so adorable with her front paws which she often uses to express herself; she loves to hi-five!
Dovey found a loving home with a retired couple for 3 yrs; but unfortunately one owner passed and the other moved into a nursing home, so once again, Dovey is back under our care.
Dovey would be happiest in a home with a retired couple who would be with her most of the time as she doesn't like to be left alone. She could possibly enjoy the company of an older male dog. She is crate, leash, and housetrained. She does not like small children, as they make her nervous. Could your family be the right fit for Dovey?
