TESS in Nauvoo, IL.'s Story...
TESS in Nauvoo, IL.'s Story...
Meet sweet, beautiful, little Tess, a female Affenpinscher. Although Tess is very timid at first, she is a great companion. She has the cutest little “roly-poly” body and big soulful eyes that follow you around everywhere. When you do pick her up for cuddles she is so soft and sweet. She does not jump on furniture and ignores the neighbor dogs that bark at her through the fence. She doesn't jump all over you or your visitors. She is so well mannered that she will surely be a great addition to the right home.
Tess is typical of the Affen breed in the sense that she follows her humans all around the house to keep an eye on them. She is not the type of girl to jump on your lap and shower you with kisses, but she doesn't mind if you calmly and gently approach her to pick her up and cuddle her. She would love a small dog companion in her forever home, as long as they will give her space when she wants it. She is doing very well on potty training, and would do best with someone who works from home so she can go out often. She will use a puppy pad when necessary.
Though Tess had a rough start in life and was very scared of everything at first, she has a good heart, and gets along with everyone. She has come such a long way already! She will need an adopter who understands where she has been and is patient in helping her reach her potential. She startles easily and needs to be protected from bolting since she can be a flight-risk when frightened. She must always be securely harnessed and leashed when outside a fenced area and crated or seat belted in the back seat when in a vehicle. She would do best in a quiet adult only home (no children) and needs a securely fenced yard.
Her birthday is July 31, 2007 and she weighs just 13 pounds. She is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, micro chipped, heartworm negative and taking preventative. Tess is being fostered near Nauvoo Illinois and we prefer to place her within driving distance. Our dogs may never be shipped in cargo and we do not transport them to adoptive homes. They are never placed in homes with invisible (electric) fencing. Doggy doors are OK as long as they are secured at night and when you are gone. Tess is small enough to be carried away by a coyote or other predator so may never be left outside alone. Being a short nosed breed, Affenpinschers are sensitive to extreme heat and cold, so care must be taken when you are outside with her on very hot and very cold days.
You may submit an adoption application for Tess at http://www.abgra.org/ Questions may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org but please read her story first to see if she is a good match for your lifestyle.
About American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance Inc. - Southern IL.
ABGRA (American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance) & AAR (American Affenpinscher Rescue) is a non-profit national rescue group founded to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Brussels Griffons and Affenpinschers. We strive to leave no Griff or Affen behind and rescue these breeds from commercial breeding facilities and city/county shelters when foster home space is available. We also accept owner surrendered Griffs and Affens. We are an all foster home based rescue that provides complete vetting for our dogs prior to adoption.
American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance Inc. (ABGRA) and American Affenpinscher Rescue (AAR) came into being to meet the needs of the Brussels Griffons and Affenpinschers who are abandoned, might be abandoned, or whose circumstances we can improve. We are especially mindful of the Griffs and Affens that have spent their lives in commercial breeding facilities and who will have a chance at a better life through our efforts. We also rescue both breeds from animal shelters and accept owner surrendered Griffs and Affens. ABGRA, & our subsidiary AAR, is a non-profit national rescue group.

Come Meet Our Pets...
All adoptions go through our website- We do not have a kennel facility and place all of our Griffons and Affens by application. All of our rescued dogs are living in foster homes where public viewing is not possible.
Our Adoption Process...
Our adoption donations are from $200 - $350 and reflect the vetting costs incurred for each dog as well as some dogs whose costs far exceed the donation. We interview all references provided and require a home visit before placements. An adoption contract is required. If the dog is returned within 30 days, a refund will be issued. ABGRA requires adopters be 25 years old, or older, and are looking for stable permanent adopters. In most cases, these breeds are not recommended for families with young children or for people who are not home for long periods of time. They are the perfect pet for someone who can take their dog to work with them, work from home, or are retired.
