Facts about Tonks

  • Species: Ferret
  • Color: Golden
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Tonks, Blanca, and Taboo all arrived at the shelter as a result of their mommy having to go into a nursing home. These 3 ferrets are bonded, and are the perfect group for almost any household without small children. Blanca is a gorgeous fluffy DEW who is a mellow, sweet and snuggly ferret. Her friend Tonks is a wild and crazy hyper cinnamon girl. She will happily bounce all over the house, but can be a little nippy in her excitement. Their other friend Taboo, aka Hoppy Toad, is a sweet and handsome sable, and an escape artist. These 3 compliment each other in color and personality. THey are up to date with vaccines. Age range from 1.5 to 3 years old

About Washington Metropolitan Area Ferret Outreach

About Our Shelter...

Founded in 2010, WMAFO is a foster-based rescue and network of ferret enthusiasts in the Washington, DC metro area. In late 2010, a ferret shelter in the DC area closed its doors permanently, while another announced they were no longer taking in surrenders. Some volunteers from those two rescues came together to found Washington Metropolitan Area Ferret Outreach to fill the gap in no-kill ferret shelters in the mid-Atlantic area.

The goals of WMAFO are simple: prevent ferrets from being unnecessarily euthanized in county animal shelters and provide support and education to keep ferrets in their current homes. The organization has two branches related to those goals, one that takes in ferrets from county shelters and private individuals as foster homes are available and places them in new, forever homes, and an educational branch, which holds outreach events at petstores, local animal expos and other venues and provides guidance and support for ferret owners. The organization also provides a support network for DC area ferret owners including pet-sitting, information sharing and advice, social events and a sense of community.

Our Adoption Process...

View our adoptable ferrets Adoption Application

One of the main goals of WMAFO is to find forever homes for the ferrets in our care. We aim to place our ferrets in loving homes where they will recieve proper care and attention. We are happy to adopt to new and existing ferret owners as long as the homes meet a few simple criteria.

Some of the things we look for in forever homes are:

Basic knowledge of proper ferret care, nutrition and health
A stable and safe home environment
Willingness to stay current on new developments in ferret health and wellness
An ability to provide adequate food and medical care for a ferret for the entirity of their life
A love and respect for ferrets in all of their stages, from playful kit to cuddly old weasel
We reserve the right to deny adoption to any applicant without reason.
