My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chiquita is a one year, four-month old dilute calico female cat. She was found in a neighborhood that contained 60 cats in a two-block radius. Chiquita was pregnant, thin and petite, and her outdoor life was dodging rocks being thrown at her or avoiding kicks aimed at her. Chiquita lost two of her babies because of this stress. She was a great mom to her other four, and shared them with her foster mom. When she returned to us, we could see her sadness and loneliness. We put her in with McCloud, a two-year-old grey and white male cat. It was love at first sight for the two of them, and they have bonded tightly.

McCloud's story is as sad as Chiquita's. He wandered into a backyard, where the kindly resident was feeding him. McCloud disappeared for two weeks, and when he managed to get back to the yard, the resident could see he was seriously injured, so he came to us.

McCloud unfortunately was on the wrong side of a vehicle, and his jaw was fractured in numerous places, so bad he couldn't chew food, and he was skin and bones. He had so many cuts, scabs and abscesses on his body he had to be shaved to treat his wounds. And now. . .now McCloud is a trip! You would never know what this poor boy suffered, he is so happy and comfortable in his new life. He eats with great appetite, and loves attention. He will talk a mile a minute to you, and rolls over waving his paws. He then bounds up to come directly to you for some good old fashioned cuddling and scratching. He has the cutest face, with an earnest expression and an adorable patch on his nose. And Chiquita has blossomed with McCloud’s companionship. She has gone from a cat always looking to dodge the next rock or kick to a playful, trusting, affectionate girl. Chiquita no longer huddles in her cage, but bounces out behind McCloud to give mighty whacks to her toy mouse, and then looks up at you for your approval and admiration of her valiant overthrow of that stuffed mouse. When you approach her now, she sits up in happy anticipation for petting and attention, which she has discovered after watching McCloud that human hands can do a lot of wonderful things that don’t include throwing rocks. These two are quite the pair!

At PAAWS RI, all of the cats that come into our care are spayed/neutered, receive a rabies vaccination, distemper vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, microchipping, and testing for Feline Leukemia/FIV.
