My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Webster is just under a year old, Syrian (aka Golden or Teddy Bear) hamster rescued from a hoarding situation.
She, alongside many of her siblings, was surrendered into our care after her guardian became overwhelmed. Initially having two, who they were assured were the same sex, they quickly became surprised when the numbers started growing. Being miss-sexed by the pet store they got them from (an error made too often!), these hamsters started mating, producing litter, after litter. What the former guardian (or the store who sold them!) didn't know is that Syrians are a solitary breed. They must be housed individually to avoid serious injury or even death from fighting. Sadly, because all of these hamsters were being housed together, many suffered injuries, and it became clear that the situation has gotten out of hand.

When cared for properly, Syrian hamsters are docile, gentle, and playful, and can form a relationship of trust with their humans fairly quickly. They are meticulous groomers and like to maintain orderly surroundings. They are highly active when awake and interesting to watch as they are constantly engaged in a task.

Now that she feels safe, carried for and respected, Ms Webster is friendly, outgoing and loves attention. She loves tending to her cage, rearranging the toys and hideouts. She looks forward to interactions with Empty Cages volunteers staff, and is always ready for another treat or a play session.
Ms Webster would make a wonderful companion to any experienced or beginner hamster guardians interested in learning proper care.
