My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Smiley! I know, I know, I don't smile much for my photos, but if you adopt me I'll smile all day long for you. I found myself in a rural southern Illinois pound after I was picked up as a stray. I wish I could tell you about my life before that, but ... well, you know. I think I'm about 4 years old, and I weigh 50 pounds. I'm some kind of shepherd, possibly with some mountain cur type mixed in. The pound said I was an "ugly" dog and that nobody would ever adopt me. But then Adopt-A-Pet came along and said "There are no ugly dogs! Send him to us and we'll find him the perfect person, the person who thinks he's beautiful and perfect just as he is."

Well, I may not be perfect, but I'm pretty darn close! I'm a wonderful boy that is great with other dogs and love all people. When I got to Adopt-A-Pet they brought me to the vet for my vaccinations and stuff. They found a cyst on my back which they took care of. Unfortunately, I flunked my heartworm test. Yeah, I was positive. Well, I've just finished my treatment, and I'm studying hard and looking forward to a retake real soon and I just KNOW I will pass!

My foster mom says this about me: "He’s an angel!! Very gentle and snuggly. He is super affectionate and does a little wiggly dance every time I come home along with a big grin that I've unfortunately been unable to capture on film. In fact, he's not very photogenic, he's MUCH more handsome in person. He's fabulous with the cats - he even let one lick him. I think I have heard him bark once. Does not bark at the doorbell and greets everyone like long lost friends. As long as I'm home to take him out on a regular schedule he's good about pottying outside. This guy is going to make someone a fabulous pet!"

So, if you'd like to meet me, give Adopt-A-Pet a call and they'll be happy to arrange it. My adoption fee of $270 includes: vet exam, heartworm test and treatment, rabies vaccination, bordetella vaccination, distemper combo vaccination, routine deworming, flea/tick treatment, microchip and neuter.
