My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Jojo, a pit/shepherd mix. She is approximately 3 years old and 75 lbs, spayed, house trained. About a year ago, a rescue in Lexington had sought out a temporary foster for 2-3 months while Jojo's owner was moving out of the country. He was supposed to send for her once he got settled. Turns out Puerto Rico is not friendly to pits and pit mixes, and he couldn't have her there. My mom has had her ever since, unwilling to send her to a shelter and wanting to find the right home for her.
Jojo is a very loving and affectionate dog. She loves kids, and she does very well with men (she belonged to a single man before). She does great around my 7-yr-old and 4-yr-old nephews, as well as my infant son. She does like to jump, though, and would greatly benefit from some basic obedience training. She is also territorial and will bark at people until she realizes who they are and that they don't mean any harm. This demeanor is understood by those that know her and have been around her, but it can be intimidating to strangers, though.
When it comes to other dogs, she has a bit of barrier aggression (fences, kennels, etc) when other dogs bark at her. She has been around and played with other dogs with no incidents, but mom errs on the side of caution and keeps Jojo separate from her smaller dogs... mainly because the smaller dogs act a fool and bark at her. She doesn't initiate it, but she does bark and growl back at them. It would be best if she were in a home without small dogs.
Jojo is just a big, lovable baby. She craves attention and almost has a wiggle butt like a boxer when she thinks she is going to be petted. She is scared of storms and seeks a place to hunker down during a thunderstorm. She is not destructive.
I think Jojo would be a good companion for someone who suffers from PTSD or other anxiety disorder. She is a good girl, and I think she would win hearts if given the chance. Any help you could offer to help find her forever home would be greatly appreciated.
