Important Note

Chico is best friends with Bella. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Health Issue(s)
- None

Temperament
- Not destructive.
- Not much interest in swimming. Is learning to play and enjoy fetch.
- Needs leash work as he is very strong and pulls/swerves a lot/throws himself around.
- Needs some work on his recall, but does know the other standard training commands.
- Prior to coming into rescue, lived outdoors with Bella. Has since been introduced to indoors and house trained. He is now comfortable with both living scenarios.
- Older/respectful children only, as he is sensitive to restraint and for a short period of time will jump up on people when excited/first meeting them.
- Loves getting a lot of people attention and is very good with strangers.
- Reactive with dogs on the property. Stems from not ever being socialized with dogs other than Bella.
- Does not like anything that may appear painful or strangely close to him, especially anything involving restraint.
- Is OK with getting brushed in most areas but is still a little sensitive. Trimming his nails is a little more tricky as he does not like any form of restraint.
- Has a mild habit of chasing vehicles and mild prey drive.
- Tends to have some anxiety when separated from the ones he is bonded to. He is the type of dog that needs that one person he can do everything with.

Owner Suitability
- Experience with large breeds, especially Shepherds, is an asset.
- A fenced yard is a must.
- Best suited to an active family to accommodate their high energy.
- Will require constant management when Chico and Bella are together and play is involved. Chico has a tendency to get jealous and will transfer aggression onto Bella.
- Suited only to a family with no other pets.

About Keshet Kennels/Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Keshet Kennels/Rescue, in addition to providing services such as boarding/daycare and facilities rental, is a large breed dog rescue focused primarily on owner surrenders. Under certain circumstances we take dogs from other sources. Keshet’s focus is large breed dogs because we believe that large breed dogs are more at risk.

Neither Keshet Kennels nor Keshet Rescue are registered charitable organizations. Currently, the care of rescued dogs is funded by the owners, from individual sponsors and a portion of Keshet Kennels’ revenues.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Keshet Kennels/Rescue is located in Carlsbad Springs, 20 minutes East of Ottawa (ON).

We operate 7 days a week from 7am to 8pm. To manage our days efficiently, we prefer that appointments are made to visit the facility or meet the dogs available for adoption.

Our Adoption Process...

1. All our dogs are fully vetted: they are fixed, chipped and up to date on all their shots and seasonal meds, if applicable.
2. Our dogs have basic obedience.
3. There is of course an adoption process. In the event of a suitable pairing, there is an adoption fee of $500 + tax.

There is a fairly structured adoption process which involves a commitment of time from potential adopters, and multiple trips to our facility. We are open to long distance adoptions, so long as the milestones of our adoption process are met http://www.keshetkennels.com/services/rescue-adoption/adoption-process/).

An adoption application, and home visit are part of the adoption process.
