What's in a name? A lot! When someone is looking at the list of pets on our site, the first things they see are pets' photos and names. This is your chance to get them to click for more info, which could lead to an adoption! Remember, the name is part of the advertising for your adoptable pet. A posting without a name or photo, or a bad name or photo can make people pass your lovely pets by! Cute and interesting names work best. If you are posting pets for a shelter and the pets have no names, don't make up a name (could be confusing if someone calls the shelter), but also don't just write an ID # or kennel number! An ID # like "33451A" is not an attractive name that piques an adopter's interest and makes them fall in love. Use the name field to write a short cute phrase like "Adopt me!", "Little Lover", "I need you", or any other phrase that gives your pet some personality. Remember, people are looking for a connection and you need to start that connection from the moment they first see your pet!

NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply. You can find information about the shelter or rescue group caring for this pet, and their adoption procedures, on the pet's details page on Adopt-a-Pet.com.
