My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET JIMMY Bo HORNE (akd JIMMY) -

JIMMY is the newest member of the ODR, Inc Puppy Brigade and we'd love for you to meet him. He is a 7 month old, smooth red male Dachshund with unmatched love and personality. Just look at the smile on that little face! Aside from a recent surgery on his back legs due to extra dew claws, this little guy has no issues and is ready to meet his forever family. JIMMY is the sweetest loving boy, really the best pup ever.

HERE is the amazing story of his rescue as shared by Chief Volunteer, Mama Jenell:

Thanks to the Good Samaritan who called, this 7 month old puppy was saved! This cute boy is from a BYB. His owners moved out and left him in a filthy chicken coop. He has lived his entire puppy life outside so he needs lots of TLC. When I went to get him and put him in my car I was listening to studio 54 XM radio. One of my very favorite disco songs came on from 1980 when I taught disco dancing, Spank by Jimmy Bo’ Horne. We sang and danced in the car and got to know each other. I looked at him and said you know what? I am going to name you after Jimmy Bo’ Horne he nodded his head and said ok! Jimmy went to the vets for the works - neuter, rabies, dhpp, bordetella, bloodwork, nails, parasite and worm control and flea prevention. He does have an infection around his ears. Jimmy is an adorable darling little man.

JIMMY will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. His loving forever family will need to patiently spend time on his puppy training so that little JIMMY can learn all he needs to learn to be a successful family Dachshund. JIMMY is a little smarty though so we believe he will learn quickly.

Like all Dachshunds, JIMMY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, JIMMY needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give JIMMY a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
