Shea a 5 month old lab/terrier mix. At almost 5 months and 20 lbs. She is all puppy all the time.
Shea is the happiest puppy on the block. She has not met a human big or small she does not immediately like. She is the star at the playground and at the farmers market eager to sniff and lick everyone who stops. She may jump up and try to chew on your hand or catch your toes but just because she is so excited. She loves to make puppy friends even those who are not too sure about her and her excitement level.
She is high energy and if you lose sight of her she quickly finds the shoes you thought you had put away. She loves to chew and play with her toys but just like a toddler if you can't hear her something is up. While she will let you know she is not happy with it in the beginning she does well during the day in the crate for 2-3 hours. While little she would benefit from someone home to continue her training.
If she gets enough exercise and attention she will sleep close to 8 hours in her crate without any accidents. Shea is learning where you go potty and prefer doing her business on walks rather than off her leash She has had a few accidents but mostly right after eating if you don’t get her outside immediately. She will run to a secluded part of the house where she thinks you cannot find her. She walks nicely on the leash once she gets some energy out and very curious about all the wild life. A fenced yard would be ideal but not a requirement. Make sure she gets plenty of long walks and play time and she is happy.
Shea will make an awesome family dog for someone who has the time to train her. She already knows how to sit and is working on stay.
Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies.
Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a “teen” or adult dog.
Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.
We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details.
Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
