My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Welcome Stella! This gorgeous shepherd mix had it rough when she first came into Athens Canine Rescue, but she’s doing much better now. She's about a year old and just over 40lbs and will probably top out in the high 50’s. Stella currently lives with foster sibling Teddy and a 4-legged feline friend, and they all get along great!
Little baby kisses are Stella’s expertise. ‘What is that?’ you ask? Well, Stella has an odd way of sticking her tongue out ever so slightly to give the doggy version of a little ‘peck’ to her humans. It’s too cute! She is quite the little confident one and wants to show how much she loves you! If the stimulation is available, Stella can keep up. But if it’s a Netflix binging sort of day, being a couch potato is fine with her. A couple of play sessions and walks or runs during the day would be plenty of exercise for this girl. Foster Mom thinks she would be a great running partner with a little more leash training.
Stella is still working on her housebreaking skills. She hasn’t quite figured out how to signal to Foster Mom when she needs to go, and often needs to be let out after being put to bed for the night. For the most part, Stella loves attention from other dogs. She’s been around all sizes, both male and female and enjoys playing with them for as long as she is allowed. When it comes to toys, she tends to want to keep them to herself, and isn’t a fan of sharing, so she’s working on her manners still. But she’s a great dog park dog and loves meeting new friends!
Crate training is still a work in progress as Stella prefers to be in the presence of her humans and would prefer to not be left alone. She doesn’t need her foster mom to pay attention to her 24/7, but she would like to be in the same vicinity as her, if at all possible. It appears that she enjoys the sound of her own bark, so Foster Mom is working with her on that.
With a little TLC and some patience, Stella will grow into an obedient, gentle, loving companion! She’s a pretty great dog and is proving to be a smart one. With a good balance of independence and needy, she’s a great addition to a family who wants that extra member to keep the floor warm  Hurry up, she won’t be in the program for long!
