Big head. Big heart. Big baby. Yes, this 75lb. (we think most of that weight is in his noggin) low-rider boy, charmed his way into the OMD family when we met him in a high kill shelter. He spent our entire visit play bowing at us through the bars of his cage making it impossible not to love him and impossible not to rescue him. Despite ending up at Animal Control twice due to his previous owner's negligence, Herschel is nothing less than ecstatic about life. At a little under 2 years, this squaty Pitbull mix is a young zoomie extraordinaire who loves to play so he would be thrilled to share his home with another big dog (a bully breed sibling would be perfect) who wants to run and wrestle. Little dogs are great too, as his best friend in foster is a Maltese mix, but sometimes Herschel is unaware of his size so he will need a savvy, sturdy small dog (same goes for kiddos) who can handle his zest for life. H is great on leash, absolutely loves his walks and is an active guy so we are looking for a well matched household who is committed to giving him some solid play time and will continue to work with him on being an ambassador for the breed. He has the whole social-love-bug-kissing-lean-in-for hugs thing down, now he just needs his true forever family. This young man is perfectly crate trained, housebroken, neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped. Looking for a lap dog wrapped in a Pitbull body, you found him. About One More Dog Rescue (formerly RSHT)

About Our Rescue Group...

One More Dog Rescue, formerly Ruff Start Happy Tails, believes that animals deserve our love, compassion, and respect. Our purpose is to rescue dogs and to provide care for orphaned, stray, and abused dogs. Through rehabilitation, socialization, and adoption, we strive to provide a humane service to all dogs that come into our rescue. Additionally, we provide awareness about the prevention of animal abuse and neglect as well as spay/neuter programs and their important effect on the dog overpopulation crisis.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are a Connecticut-based 501c3 dog rescue that will adopt to approved applicants in the surrounding areas.
We do not have a facility - All of our rescue dogs are in loving foster homes.

Our Adoption Process...

One More Dog Rescue (OMD), formerly Ruff Start Happy Tails, requires all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application and agree to a home visit prior to any adoption. Once the application is approved, a meet and greet will be scheduled between the potential adopter (s) and the dog. If the dog is adopted through One More Dog, an adoption contract must be signed, and we ask that a donation in the amount of $350.00 be made at the time of adoption to help our rescue cover a portion of the costs we incur through pull fees, vetting, and training.
