Hello, my name is Pokey. The past few months, I have affectionately been referred to as “Momma”. I had 4 puppies on July 16th and have been busy raising them and now it’s time to prepare myself for a forever home.

I am white with black spots and considered possibly a Chi-weenie. I have short legs; however, with Chihuahua features. I now weigh 8-1/2 lbs. I’m just 1-1/2 yrs. old. I am a very nurturing dog and was a wonderful mom.

I came to Puppy Pals Rescue back in May after being dropped off at a shelter in KY. My owner had passed away. I came along with my two brothers (Coco and Freckles who have been adopted already). When I went in to a clinic to be spayed, we discovered that I was carrying puppies and was probably quite far along. PPR had a big project – prepare me, at only 1-year-old myself, for the delivery of 4 puppies.

That project was successful, resulting in the birth of 2 girls and 2 boys (with the loving care assistance of Auntie Becky Wells who helped me along!). Time has passed and my puppies are getting spayed and neutered and have waiting homes. They all are great puppies.

At first, I am a little on the shy side until I get to know you. I get along with other dogs and cats and seem to be okay around children – if my puppies are not in sight. I love to go on car rides and to run out in the backyard, dashing after the other dogs. I love to cuddle and have my belly rubbed.

I will be available for adoption after October 22th. I’m scheduled to be spayed on October 11. I’ll be completely vetted prior to leaving for my forever home. Adoption Donation Fee is $225.

I will need continuous help on potty-training. I’m not perfect yet - your time and patience will help. I would prefer to have a stay-at-home mom or dad - I get nervous when left alone.

A note from the foster home: Pokey will need a fenced-in yard.

If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at (Email my foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!)

I just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!!

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small group of friends who all volunteer their personal time and work hard using special talents to make an impact on the life of a dog in need (one at a time). We are experienced in small, long-haired breeds with special focus on the Yorkshire Terrier.

Our volunteers foster out of their homes. We raise funds with members who handcraft doggie items and homebaked doggie treats to sell at area craft fairs and festivals.

We can always use help and support! FOSTER HOMES ARE ALWAYS NEEDED in the Greater Dayton area.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our fosters are in our volunteer's homes and an appointment would be needed to meet the dog.

We do pet events - check the Events calendar on our website at for more information.

You can also visit our website to complete an application to adopt or email us with questions.

Our Adoption Process...

To adopt - An application will need to be completed which will include 3 personal references; and, a vet reference (if you have one).

A telephone interview by the foster home and a home visit will be scheduled. Once these are completed the foster home has the final say on the adoptive family.

We match the dog's personality with the family. Every animal is different; some are child friendly - others might not be. Some require fenced-in yards .. others might not. We discourage the use of invisible fences for small breed dogs.

Our fees are based on the age and medical needs of the dog and range from $100 - $400.
