My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Corliss' story about how he came to MCP is just crazy, and heartbreaking, and happy. One of our volunteers was walking down a busy street in Chicago one Sunday morning, when a dog flew out of a second story window of a condo building that was under construction and crashed on the sidewalk in front of her, badly injured. The hardworking folks at Chicago Animal Control were able to rush to his aid and get him immediate medical treatment. After he was not claimed, MCP was able to take him to rescue and get him the help he needed.

Corliss was one of the many guard dogs that are forced to work alone, often without adequate food, water or shelter (we suspect Corliss was looking for food or water when he fell from the worksite, as he was very underweight and dehydrated when he was picked up), in potentially dangerous factories, parking lots and construction sites all around our communities. The security company he made money for didn't step up to help him. The company developing the building where he was working didn't step up to help him. After years of hard work in bad conditions, Corliss found himself alone at animal control, badly hurt (he had a ruptured elbow), with no one who owned him or hired him taking responsibility for his life, health or happiness.

So we did. And we are so grateful he is in our lives. Corliss is a special guy, who after years of neglect is understandably wary of some people, but is quickly learning that people can be as nice as they can be cruel and is more and more trusting each day. He is excellent with other dogs, and learning how to live as a family pet nicely. Corliss is an older guy, about 7, and is healing up from his elbow surgery well and will soon be back to full speed.
