My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Poppy! My parents are weird and like to name all of their foster dogs after food. So I am named after a poppy seed.

How old are you?

The vet thinks I am over 1 year, but under two.

What do you look like?

I am a fit girl with a big ole head! I am that perfect blue silver color. Sometimes my foster parents say my ears look like elephant ears….

What do you like to eat?

My foster parents give me this really yummy food. I don’t know what it is but they say it is healthy for me, so I like that. They say it has veggies in it to keep my coat healthy. I also love to eat carrots as my treats.

What kind of personality do you have?

I am a silly girl who always wants to be playing with my foster brother or looking outside for squirrels and the neighbor dogs. I have a good amount of energy and love to be outside. I also love people and love getting attention from humans!

Describe your perfect day:

My perfect day would consist of roaming the backyard looking for squirrels. After that, I would love to sit in the office on my foster mom’s office chair and make sure there is nothing funny going on outside. After I am done making sure all is in order outside, I would love to a nap on the couch. In the evening, I love to chew on my bone and snuggle up with my humans!

What is your favorite toy?

While I love my foster brother chip, he tends to ruin everything and can only have nylabones because he destroys everything else! So that is all I get to play with too. But I love them!! We also have this really cool orange ball that almost is too big to fit in my mouth! My foster parent’s call that one Jumbo Ball…they are creative I know!

Do you know any tricks?

I sit well. We are working on shaking, learning how to walk on a leash, and staying on command. I know to sit nicely while my foster parents make my food and I am good at not jumping on people.

What scares you?

I get scared of new things. I just need a little bit of time to warm up to them though and after that I am fine. The other day, it took me about 20 minutes to learn that nothing was going to jump out of a kitchen cabinet and attack me. I do not like the Roomba my parents have though! Or maybe I like it too much, I chase it around and try to chew on it!

Do you like cats?

I haven't had much experience with cats, but I would be curious to learn more about them!

Do you have any doggie best friends?

My foster brother, Chip! He is the main dog that I get to hang out with every day. I also get to hang out with my foster parents, parent’s dog, Bella! We love to play together outside in the grass. Chip doesn’t get to play with us because he is allergic to grass…see, I told you he ruins everything!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Hmmmm….I want to be somewhere where I can hang outside and inside equally and explore!

How is your health?

Right now, my health is great! My foster parents brought me to get spayed, but it turned out, I was already spayed!!!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?

I share a home with my two human foster parents, David and Emma and my foster brother Chip.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?

When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind hanging out in there until someone comes home to play with me!

Where do you sleep?

I spend my nights dreaming away in my crate. It helps me settle down and get a good night of sleep so I am ready to beat brother to the food bowls first thing in the morning.

What do you love about your foster family?

I love that my foster family gives me lots of attention. I also love that they are showing me the ropes of how to live in a home and give me a safe comfortable place to be a dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?

My foster parents do not know much about my previous life! I was already spayed, which means I was probably an inside dog that ran away or got let go! I was picked up by St. Louis County Animal control! Even chance came and scooped my up from there! I am pretty well potty trained and learned my name very quickly, so my foster parents think I have been in a home before!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
