My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Charlie! This beautiful Yellow Labrador is about 2 years old and right around 40lbs. She is an affectionate little lady and probably has some Whippet in her as well. Though she is shy, she has proven to be a lover and has come great strides from when she first entered the shelter. People are no longer strangers to her and she is happier than ever!

When Charlie first came to us, she was afraid of absolutely everything - motorcycles, doorways, people... you name it. Now she trots right up to people without hesitation and only needs a little bit of time to warm up to new pups! Charlie isn’t shy about asking for pets or attention when she wants them but can also settle if she thinks Foster Mom and siblings are settled. She does have a habit of pawing at you for attention, but if ignored enough, she'll find better things to do. Napping is not an issue at all! When there’s a lot of activity, she tends to pace behind her humans like a little shadow, but she'll put herself in her crate for a nap :) Though she is a little shy about going in when it's bedtime, she can be coaxed with a tasty treat. Sometimes she'll paw at the crate door at first, but ultimately she settles without any fuss and sleeps through the night. If there’s a lot of commotion in the house still, putting a blanket over the top is very helpful for her. Her crate is where she eats her meals so she has learned that it is her safe space.

When Charlie has to potty, she tends to get a little antsy which is Foster Mom’s cue to let her outside. With a yard to run around in, there haven't been any issues with her pottying outside. It seems she is not a fan of doing so on a leash though, so Charlie would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She hasn’t been around cats or children but we imagine she would be afraid of cats, at first, and absolutely love the attention any child could bring! Dogs, on the other hand, are very helpful for Charlie as they give her the OK and help her adjust. Her foster brother, Moby, is a bit nosy and she doesn't particularly like it when he wants to sniff her rear end. All she does is tucks her tail and wiggles away. She can be a bit of a drama queen with new dogs, but after the initial introduction, all she wants to do is play! Her initial shelter jitters have finally worn off :)
Loud noises sometimes startle Charlie, but she has gained a lot of confidence. In fact, the coffee grinder doesn't even scare her! Her energy level is pretty mellow and she thoroughly enjoys hanging out and chewing on bones. Every once in a while she’ll get a case of the zoomies, but is pretty laid back for the most part. With a couple short walks and some outdoor exploring, Charlie is easily amused. She would do best in a home with a play mate since she absolutely loves wrestling! Unfortunately, she does have a habit of smushing little ones... Marlo, for instance, gets sat on during play time and he is not a big fan. The two of them will chase each other and play tug of war all day though! In her current foster home, Charlie has not had an accident inside, but she also doesn't have access to any carpeted areas. In her previous foster home, she would potty on the rugs so she's not quite housebroken, but certainly getting there.

Sweet, affectionate, & loving is the best way to describe this lovely lab. Oh, and quiet! Foster Mom isn't sure she has ever heard her bark! She is eager to please and loves learning how to be a good dog. If you're looking for a playful and devoted companion, Charlie will take that role without hesitation!
