We have been foster parents for Midwest BREW for many years. A few weeks ago, we went to pick up our newest foster dog. We took one look at her, and said “she’s huge!” Well, the DNA results are in, and Maggie is not a beagle. Surprise!! She is an American Foxhound/Treeing Walker Coonhound cross, as were her parents. So, we did some research and here’s what we found out. American Foxhounds like human companionship, get along well with other dogs, are very tolerant and amiable, and need daily exercise such as a long walk. Check! Treeing Walker Coonhounds are agile, energetic, loving, intelligent, confident and even-tempered. Their curious nature means they have a tendency to stand on their hind legs to investigate a small child or an adult holding a small dog. Double check!! Maggie is 20” at the shoulder and weighs 53 lbs. And she is an absolutely awesome dog! She is very playful, and plays well with our beagles even though she is twice as big as one of them and three times bigger than the other one. She is gentle and respectful of them and our crabby senior female beagle. She is very cuddly and likes to sleep in the big bed at night, the only problems being that she snores and likes to lay cross-wise for some reason. We were told she was a stray, but it’s obvious she once had a loving home. She knows some commands, takes treats gently, and walks wonderfully on leash. She loves kids, but due to her size, probably kids eight and up would be best. She is in excellent health. We cannot say enough good things about Maggie. We would love to talk to you about her. Don’t miss a chance to make this wonderful dog a part of your family.
