Birdie's Story...
Say hi to Birdie! She's a happy 7 year old Coonhound mix. Birdie is a transfer from another shelter so her history is unknown. She's your typical nose to the ground hound when she's outside and an affectionate cuddle monkey when indoors. Birdie barks in her kennel but once she's out, she's quiet. Here's a little info about Coonhounds if you know nothing about them..."Coonhounds are inveterate explorers who will follow their nose over hill, over dale, through the woods -- and onto the highway if left unattended. When well-exercised, coonhounds are calm and undemanding dogs, apt to sprawl and snore in front of the fire. Without exercise, on the other hand, a coonhound can be a rambunctious handful. Coonhounds get along very well with other dogs, though some can be dominant and pushy as they test each other for favorable positions in the pecking order."Birdie would love to say bye bye to Friendship and hello to her new family. Stop by soon!

If you have kids and/or another dog in your family and are interested in adopting a Friendship dog please bring them with you for a meet and greet. No appointment is necessary. Stop by anytime during regular business hours.

All dogs receive one or more vaccinations, a basic veterinary examination, are wormed, heartworm tested and spayed or neutered. Dogs 3 months and older are micro-chipped.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Birdie, a Elyria Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Coonhound for sale in Elyria, or seeking a Coonhound dog from a breeder in Elyria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elyria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elyria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Coonhound breeders who help with Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elyria paves the way for another one to be saved.
