ALL ABOUT ME: My name is Bindi and I am a 5 year old purebred cocker spaniel. I am quite a looker or so they say. Up until recently, I was in a breeding program. Now that I am in rescue, I have been spayed, and completed all of my vetting including a dental/scaling, so that I can have fresh breath to give you cocker kisses! Yes, I am a true cocker spaniel through and through! If you have never owned a cocker spaniel, it may be a good time for you to go and educate yourself on our breed. You see, cocker spaniels are one of the most expensive breeds to own. I mean we look regal so it does make sense right? I mean seriously though, if you have no knowledge of the breed go and check out the info on maintaining our coats with grooming and proper diet, as well as some of the "breed specific" issues that can and do arise. We do require regular grooming every 6 to 8 weeks with a professional groomer. Also, we are prone to ear and skin infections, and YES, I did have both when I came into rescue, so it is recommended that we are on a "grain free" diet, which is also about $20 more expensive per month than regular doggy food. If you are starting a running tally you can see that between grooming and grain free addition to normal doggy stuff like heartworm and flea prevent, etc. we can easily spend your money. We are also prone to some other medical conditions and while I have been currently given a clean bill of health, my breed does have a tendency to have some issues with age like hypothyroidism, so again go check out and be informed. NOW, if you have had a cocker before, or have breed knowledge then you KNOW that we are the BEST breed to own for lovey, cuddly people. Cockers are VERY loyal, very SMART, and very VELCRO in that they love to be with their people. Okay, so now lets talk more about me. So I am 5 years old and I absolutely am wonderful with other dogs! I love to play with them and even sleep with them, but as much as I love them, I definitely follow "my people" all over in true cocker fashion. I ride well in the car. I am very good in my crate, which is a good thing because since I was previously in a breeding program, I am not reliably housetrained and will need a structured schedule and prevention with a crate in order to complete this process. Don't get me wrong, I am smart and catching on, and well hey I am a cocker so I will do anything for a treat lol, BUT you and I will need to work on your schedule, your house/yard, etc. so please be prepared to be patient with me and I promise if you do your part I will certainly work on my please you. But again, this will be on you to work with me and show me the way. I am great with all humans and even with little kids! Of course, your children always need to be respectful and treat any dog kindly. Remember, I have very long and interesting ears and a little nubber tail, which can be interesting to small children, so anyone with small children should always be proactive and teach them how to handle any dog. I have not been around cats, but it is hard to believe I would ever hurt anything or anyone as I am a very sweet kind and gentle girl, but if you have cats put in an application and we will certainly cat test to be safe for your family. In closing, if you are looking for a very well tempered, true-to-breed cocker personality, and you have the time and patience to work with me on perfecting my potty, then you should definitely be going and filling out the application, as I am as sweet and loving as they come! xoxoxoxo Bindi

Why Adoption is a Great Option

BINDI* PUREBRED COCKER!!, a Mentor Cocker Spaniel dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Cocker Spaniel for sale in Mentor, or seeking a Cocker Spaniel dog from a breeder in Mentor.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Mentor already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Mentor breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Cocker Spaniel breeders who help with Cocker Spaniel rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Mentor paves the way for another one to be saved.
